So this may be stupid question but what good does a rear swaybar do? It looks to me like all it does it mount onto the rear axle. Is there more to it that I'm missing?

Uh....

It helps prevent body roll, provides cornering stability, and overall improves handling.

Dissect the word swaybar. Basically helps prevent the vehicle from swaying as it corners... LOL

Combined with other enhancements, it can very noticeably change how a vehicle behaves.

Haha sorry but our cars don't have independent rear suspension so I didn't think it would really do much...does it attach to the shocks? I've never looked at one up close, that's why I'm wondering

My base definitely could benefit from one. It has more body roll than the Z.

You'd be surprised how much a rear swaybar will stiffen the weak A frame we have back there, Granted no its not independent but that A frame setup twists VERY easily when your pushing the weight of the car against it. I have both the internal bar that comes on a Z26 and also the addon addco swaybar.

Where can I get ahold of the internal sway bars? And how do they come out?

There 4 bolts. I can sell you one cheap right now, along with an external bar as well. I have both.

Some years it was welded in, that's how mine is installed, so I had to get a whole z26 rear axle.

My internal swaybar is bolted in and adding the rear swaybar(z51) made alot of difference in cornering, im loving it and was worth every penny...

tyler - the rear axle of these cars is quite flexible, more than you might think. Try this. Put a floor jack under either the left or rear axle near where the lower shock mounts. Start jacking it up. See how far one side will raise (twist) before the opposite wheel begins to lift. Heck, even with the OE internal rear bar the twist (sway) is quite large.

I have an extra rear axle assembly with an internal bar laying behind the shop. You can quite easily lift one end (twist) of the axle by hand without lifting the opposite end.
