:runsies: SO I am annoyed..

I fill up with premuim fuel all the time, I never use a lower octane than recommended, but it seems like every time I get gas now, my engine has itcking/knocking as it i filled it up with regular 87 octane fuel. I am annoyed because I fill it with the highest octane all the time, and even sometimes use the octane fuel additive. I am wondering if the rumors of gas stations selling 87 octane fuel as premuin fuel true? has anyone heard anything because its ticking me off (no pun intended)

Well, if it's ONLY doing it for a short time after filling up, I'd consider a new station. It's possible they have water in their tanks and , for obvious reasons, that's bad...

its actually when the tank is lower, it comes and goes sporadically

any way to remove water from my tank in the event it may be on my end due to a bad gas station pump or something?

Ok, then my theory would be your gas tank may be due for a cleaning. In New Mexico here, we get what's called "alkali buildup" in our gas tanks. Mostly due to people who never fill their car above 1/4 or 1/2 a tank (which is bad btw) allowing the upper half or three quarters to get a nasty buildup on it that kills fuel pumps and destroys fuel fiters and injectors when they finally do fill up again.

My point here anyhow is, that the sediment buildup in your tank is likely being caught up in your fuel pump pickup and it may be time to drop the tank and clean it.

Dropping the gas tank? Nah, it's a little involved, but not bad. Be sure you're well under a 1/4 tank though unless you really want a work out, lol.

If your tank is metal I would consider changing to a plastic one, but thats just me. That job at a shop is gonna cost an arm and a leg.

Tell you what, if you can get your car to me in Delaware, I'll fix everything on you car for half price plus cost of parts :D Seriously

I'm a Ford tech BTW, just for peace of mind, LOL

He'd be better off stopping at my house and we could do this... lol

Changing to a plastic tank could be a bit involved though depending on the exhaust routing... I attempted to do it once but since I just had an exhaust bet to match the metal tank so I didn't swap it... The metal tank exhaust routing will hit the plastic tank.

depends on what needs to be worked on... I do anything... A gas tank isn't specific to quads lol
