DHP Powertuner for 96 Beretta V6

Today after waiting for this new product we finally got it all running.   I was outside this early morning playing with my new toy.

The PCM programmer works ONLY for 1996 Beretta and Corsica V6(possibly N bodies) There is NO plans to develop a system for 1994 and 1995 OBD1.5 PCM's.  If you have either year you have to upgrade as i did to my own 1995.


This tool is allows you to prgrame fuel spark and other tables, transmission and some accessories like a/c and alternator with parameters needed or wanted for 3100/3400 performance.    This is a good tool for forced induction cars as welll as lightly modified.     I got the first working setup this weekend and got all files setup today.    I had to upgrade my neglected 700mhz PIII notebook a bit to free up some space and make it more efficient.    This setup requires a 300mhz PII or higher as it is a hungry windows application.  

Stephanie and myself drove around a little and took some bring screen prints of the tuner portion.   There is also full diagnotics and logging.    We did some real time viewing of various sensors, even viewed transmission features.   Basically it can everything a Tech II system can do.

Here is the hiearchy of the calibration


OOOH at last clearing out those pesky DTC codes...no more MIL light for taking out my purge solenoid...or EGR or any other paramter..you can even adjust the frequency of a DTC to show the MIL light.


Yeah i could have made it 255mph....but 145 seems a decent point for my speed limiter...




Now i have a lot to learn with this we have some test files to work with.   The flash time is about a minute so i can change settings on the fly and save different config files.  I believe we can share with other owners of the tool.   The complete powertuner setup is $410 shipped.  Those with earlier cars could modify 96 harness to work for them.  I was able to convert my 95 to 96 parameters with very little reworking.

Does similar things that TunerCat and Datamaster do for the LT1.

Nice deal for the 96's.  If I was building a forced induction V-6 I would probably convert to OBDII and tune away.

This is will only work with 3100/3400 with cam sensor's.   It will not work in the 2.8/3.1 MPFI blocks.

Good point.  I guess if I was building a FI V-6 I would not bother with the 2.8/3.1 or 3100 engines anyway.

3400 all the way unless this new 3900 is a variation of the old 60 degree block.  Then I'd try to use it.

3500 and 3900 have different crank position sensor values.  The reluctor wheel has more angles.  If you can program that ajustment into the 96 PCM we can use those.  OR we will be forced to use PCM's from those cars that the engines come from and make adjustments to them.

Adaption of newer harness and PCM's is not out of the question for older cars.

Maybe I will purchase a salvaged low mile 3900 and sit on it for 2 years.  Find another 3900 and do the first ever swap for someone else who will then sell the car.

Out of curiosity, what is the data stream on our 96's considered? ÂÂÂ I've heard ALDL 8196 or is that on the older pre-OBD-II vehicles?  Or, is it J1850VPW ??

The 3900 is not just a garden variety 60 degree V6 for a swap guys.

variable intake setup, variable valve timing, and displacement on demand.  

The 3500 would be a better route....

Jerry, I don't know the name of the datestream for the 1996 beretta OBDII PCM.   The older ALDL setups were 8192 baud rate.    

Dusty,  To do the install you need the following from a 1996 Beretta or Corsica.

PCM
harness
injector harness
3 prong temp sensor
OBDII knock sensor
96 Tach Cluster (might be a work around for this)

For accessories you will want
96 ABS computer
96 ABS pump
cruise control(94's use older vacuum style)

Things that we turned off and did not use.

rear heated O2
EGR
purge solenoid


Joel, that engine is hottness, and will require some serious work to make work in a Beretta.   We shall see what the future is with DHP or HPtuners for sofware.

This is from last nights flash.  It takes less than 60 seconds.  After a 20 second rest, we then started it back up.  No more check engine light in my 95, and we did some playing around with trans settings.

Now you have the power to screw it up really good!  

This may seem to simple, but why can't you just grind off all the notches that you don't need on the crank reluctor and take it back down to the number of pulses you need.  Might be a good job for a machine shop.  

Don't make me think of ways to control the variable intake and cam timing with other PCM outputs......

Do you want to explain that process(removing notches) to beretta owners for the next 5 years?

That is a little more than I had figured upon.  If provoked I may have to do it and will need your help locating parts but that wouldnt be until this upcoming April.  I was hoping it was simpler than that and that others could do it quite simply as thats what Im trying to use in this project are easily installable items.  Thank you for the information though.
