Hi,
I tried to sign up before and I don't know it didn't work out I guess. So i'm hoping this time around things will work out. I have a dark blue 1989 Beretta GT auto and an 89 Corsica base 4cyl auto that needs some work. I have almost 145k on the Beretta, have owned it for 1 year and a half. There are 213K on the Corsica, and its been around since '06.

Sure hope you changed the timing chain on that GT. Or plan to soon, you are getting in the danger area.

I live in Waupaca. When I got the Beretta the thermostat was stuck open, so i replaced it. Now if the temp gets about to where the TCC lock-up would engage, it leaks oil like mad. I suspect its the oil pump O-ring because i once had that replaced on a 92 3.1 once upon a time. (funny thing is it was fixed and immediately leaked two days later and ever since. Then the car was parked for about 6 months, and now it doesn't leak at all)

Welcome! I think maybe I've seen your GT before. But then again I've seen a lot of GTs in that color in the past, so my memory is probably failing me.
Got any pictures?!

You can use a distributor gasket for a small block Chevy too along with the O-ring. That way it will never leak again. It just seals the cap up.

Is the gasket/seal hard to replace? I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to working on cars, and for a GM dealer to do that 6 years ago was $372!
I don't know if I can post pics yet. I can't even edit my profile yet. Hopefully in a few days.
I will have to go take pictures. I don't have very many at all of the car, so I should go out and get some decent ones. I bought if from a guy in Appleton who got it from a lady who bought it new in Green Bay (Broadway Automotive), and he also told me that it went to Florida for a while. I can tell that's not a lie! The clear coat is gone from the hood and roof, and, amazingly, the rockers are still pretty good, and no holes in the door jambs either.
Otherwise the dog chewed through the passenger seat belt, the headliner is sagging, and the drivers door panel is not perfect. The vinyl at the top is loose and pulled away from under the trim.

I was going to do that but you need to remember SBC guys use double gaskets on the distributor to change where the cam gear rides on the oil pump drive, I didn't want to change where it rides on a stock setup so I just replaced the O-ring with a good brown one from GM. The black ones will crush easier and leak sooner.

Welcome!
I'm in Denmark (south of Green Bay) and we have another close to you, Travelor (Pat), who lives in Neenah and lived in Waupaca for a number of years...

That's a lot of WI Beretta drivers. Maybe we should have a WI mini-meet
