Low coolant temp 2.8 digi dash

Well, I replaced my tstat and the car is still running cold, or so the gauge says. After a 15 minute idle and a 10 minute drive, I only hit 25% of the temp line. I don't have a digital thermometer to take an actual reading, but my bay is super hot, and the upper hose is hot. No diag codes, and my fan did run after a while of idling, and again if I put the a/c on. Coolant is at proper levels. My mileage is also horrible.

In the FSM there is a coolant temperature switch, and a coolant temperature sender.

It's listed as :

Coolant Temperature Switch (Indicators) or
Coolant Temperature Sender (Gauges)

Do I have just the Switch, for the digital dash, or do I have two sensors, one for the dash and one for the ecu, or was that a newer year/different engine?

If there's some kind of air trapped in the system, there is a bleeder screw on the tstat housing. Is that meant to be opened hot, on idle? I opened it cold to siphon excess coolant before I replaced the tstat, and there was no rush of pressure, so I don't know when it's supposed to be used, if ever.

Mine has always read cold as well, my mileage however is fine.

I think there is two, not 100% but I remember when I called a autoparts store to order a coolant temperature sensor they asked which one I needed.

I believe all our cars have two. One sensor for the computer, and then a sensor (with a temp gauge), OR a switch (used on the 87-90 Corsica with the base cluster .. speed and gas only)

Not all have two...mine only has one. You will have two if you have an analog cluster.

Ok, I stand corrected. Never owned a DIGI. Would love to have one though!

Correct, Digi dashes get all of the sensor readings from the ECU itself, nothing is fed directly to the dash like the analog ones.

You will most likely only have the sensor that is near the thermostat... On other models there was a sensor on the rear heads and those sent the signal to the dash.
