quick question to all you knowledgeable Quad four guys..

Post by tvc3-gtz »

does anyone know where the oil pump is located on the quad four? and is there a way to tell the difference between a timing chain failure in a GTZ and an oil pump failure? This is a very important question.. thanks

The oil pump is under the oil pan. When the oil pump fails, the teeth on the nylon gear will shear/wear off. If your chain jumped time, your timing alignment points won't line up. Dowel pins holes in cam gears and you crank gear timing mark. If your chain stretched, it will have excessive slack on one side more than likely.

jack the car up, secure it on jack stands, drain your oil, then remove your oil pan, remove the oil pump, inspect it, if thats not it, re-install and put it back together(your oil psi good, if not, likely the pump, if so, it certainly isnt the pump), to check the timing chain, remove the belt, crank pully, pull the cover off and check it, if your timing jumped its hard to believe nothing internally went boom, also ive personally never heard of jumped timing in a q4, but i aint saying it isnt possible.

HAHA! Funny you say that! I've seen a few people make posts saying there quads jumped time, but the real truth is they just did it wrong upon reassembly and didn't want to sound like a complete fool! Because after-all, doing the timing on a quad is supposed to be (idiot proof)! LMAO

wow.. well he never even brought the car into his garage.. he removed the timing chain case and called it a day, then lied to me and said it was the oil pump.. he left the car disassembled for me when I had it towed home.. funny though because him leaving his work "unfinished" had cost him his lie.. I freaking KNEW it... Time to get the receipt from the original work he did (timing chain obviously) and get ready to press charges aka get my money back from this POS. god.. he'll owe me for the gasket job he did too, since thats crap now that my engine is busted... maybe I'll get a brand new engine out of the deal... I'm in for a LONGG road... stay tuned guys.. and THANKS a TON.. if anyone is interested in selling me a w41/w40 wuad four with low mileage (complete engine) please let me know (will be posting an ad in wanted section soon).
