Urgent question regarding Torx vs Star bolts...

Okay, I'm working on a GMC that requires a E5 star bolt socket and the only local thing I can find is a E5 Torx socket, are they the same or not? I'm a little confused since I can't find a straight answer on the internet when I search.

Sounds right. It would be like an inside out T torx bit. There must be a different sizing, all my "T" sets start at T15.
Sometimes you can get away with a socket, but that is really the wrong tool for the job. Can't remember if it was 12 or 6 point that works better. Anyway don't do that unless you have to. If you have time go out and buy the right one.
Just to cover my own butt I've only come across one. Guess you can call that lucky. One day I might think about getting a set of external torx.

Thanks, I ordered the right tool off of the internet instead of taking my chances with the Torx.

Rather late to the subject, but for future reference, Craftsman makes a really handy set of multi-purpose sockets that fit several different head types.

I have the full set, and it paid for itself when I needed a few reverse torx sizes I didn't already have for my transmission mounting bolts.
