Start by disconnecting and removing the battery.<\/p>\n<p>2. Unbolt the air filter housing from the battery tray.<\/p>\n<p>3. Loosen the clamp that holds the intake hose to the<br \/>\nthrottle body.\u00a0 Move it out of the way for cleaning.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Purchase a QUALITY throttle body cleaner,<br \/>\nI use a 3M product that is formulated for<br \/>\ncleaning throttle bodys.\u00a0 It cleans good plus<br \/>\nit will work inverted.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Unplug the IAC valve and using a torx bit<br \/>\nremove the two screws that hold it in.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Place a rag under the throttle body to<br \/>\ncatch the cleaning fluid and gunk that<br \/>\ncomes out as you clean it.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Pay careful attention and clean both<br \/>\nsides of the throttle blade, also be<br \/>\nsure to clean out the IAC air<br \/>\npassage.\u00a0 My IAC had some carbon<br \/>\nbuildup on the pintle so I made sure to<br \/>\nclean the tip.\u00a0 As you spray try and avoid<br \/>\ngetting cleaner in the Throttle Position<br \/>\nSensor.\u00a0 Make sure everything is clean<br \/>\nand dry and reassemble everything in<br \/>\nreverse order.<\/p>\n<p>This is a easy routine maintenance procedure you can<br \/>\ndo yourself.\u00a0 The benefits of cleaning your throttle body<br \/>\nare a smoother idle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The car in this article is an 88 with a V6.\u00a0\u00a0 Other years will be similar but as always consult a factory Service manual or chiltons type manual.
