Re: My GTZ Returns--Cleaned Up and Pretty!
I noticed you have a Rhino Pac 167500 flywheel... The only listed Rhino one for a 90 GTZ is 167524... 1991-1993 is 167500.... Unless your motor is a 1991-93 then I guess you can't yell at rockauto for the mix up.
Did you order the flywheel thinking you would need one that fit the 93 trans your running?
Things get confusing when you start to mix and match years and models and applications... trust me I know, but you need to dig into the small details and find out what changed year to year to figure out what part suites what your doing.

I think it may be factory.... I have one on my '92 Quasar. It says "manual transmission" on the handle.
Looking good Geoff, keep it up man. Sucks about the flywheel.

Re: My GTZ Returns--Cleaned Up and Pretty!
Yeah the flywheel i put in the car, came from a 92 W41 engine. So i know i did not order the wrong one. All quads from 88-94 have the same bolt pattern on the crank for the flywheel/flexplate. 95 im unsure of if its different. I did order one for the 94 motor which my tranny came from a 94, but the bolt pattern for the crank is still same diameter as the 90.
Dipstick came from a 91 GTZ Quad, and i found another that came from a 92 GTZ, and one other a friend has from a 94GAGT where i got the trans from.
Today, i had a short day at work, so guess what i did? I had a buddy at a local parts house surface the 92 flywheel for me and then made tracks to dads. The pics can speak for themselves
Ready to go

Clutch installed

Together again, such a sweet sight for my eyes! Jackshaft and rear mount pedestal mounted and secured.

Re: My GTZ Returns--Cleaned Up and Pretty!
Got the car up and over the power train and slowly lowered the car inches as a time to get the motor/trans right into their proper spots.

I must say, having that second trans mount welded into the car was the best thing i could have done! It was such a big help when holding the motor in the car till i got the subframe mounted back up under the car. I was actually shocked when i saw that all three mounts did not let the motor fall forward one centimeter! With a new clutch, and this 4-post mounting setup, im gonna have a hard time getting the tires to skip when the clutch is let off the floor. Its just gonna plant and go, and with all new suspension up front, it'll be perfect!
Here it is, all secured in place ready for the next step!

Re: My GTZ Returns--Cleaned Up and Pretty!
Sorry for some of the blurry pics. When i took them, they looked perfect on the camera (stupid 1.5" screens)
The suspension has sat for a while relaxed so the front has a lil more fender gap than the back, but after its sat for a lil bit and i get the rest of the front end on, it will sit level again.
Heres a pic of it from the side

I still have a couple things to play with before i go crazy on the wiring. The newer style lower radiator pipe is not meant for cars with the front mount support beam in place, so i have to do a minor tweak job on it to get it to clear the frame. The fuel lines need to be pushed more over toward the drivers fender and resecured as i bolted them back on too far out, hence the reason why they are halfway behind the motor right now. I also have to rig up the 91-94 style intake support bracket since im using a 91 intake manifold. All i have to do there is drill and tap two 8mm holes right next to the starter mounting, cake walk there.
I also have to retrive a couple bolts from the junkyard for the forward trans mount, i seem to have misplaced a couple bolts here and there, and those were two of them. Lucky me, i have spare bolts from every past beretta and N-body i have owned
With the weight of the power train on the front wheels now, im still surprised how light the manual steering rack feels. Although, if i counted correctly, its a 3.5 turn rack, which makes sense since its not under power, but its still not as bad as people tried to make me think it was going to be.
I should have more progress next time im out there, which might be this weekend, might not. Im thinking i need a weekend to just recuperate and get some rest. Ive been running myself into the ground trying to get to this point and i think i have deserved a lil break from workin on it for now
Comments, questions, fire away!
Edit: I just realized, i have a bunch of the stuff from under the hood in the trunk, so the car will sit more level once that stuff is back up front and out of the trunk.

Thanks man! It will be nice to hear her sweet sound after again all this time. 'Cept this time i will get my lope
Maybe i will be lucky and she will sound meaner than before.
Once the wiring is re-wrapped in plastic conduit, things will be looking up, up, and up!

Re: My GTZ Returns--Motor/Trans In!
So on Friday my wife decides she wants me to get my car done and is going to help me with the final parts to get the car back on the road
I went to the yard and found a pretty much brand new radiator from a 94 GA V6, and a coolant bottle from a 95 Beretta 2.2.
Now, while your thinkin, "Don't you have a 90 chassis?" Yes, i do, but since i converted to the newer style lower coolant pipe, im going all out and converting to newer style radiator and coolant tank. However, yes i am loosing my combo tank right there on the passenger side, i will be converting my washer bottle to the newer style as well. I have already taken the measurements and found the 92+ coolant tank does fit in the 91 and older bodies, you just have to punch two 3/4" holes in the sheet metal right behind the headlight and it bolts right down :yahoo: I do also like the newer style coolant tanks anyways. The other advantage to the newer style radiators is they are cheaper than the "90-91 GTZ only" radiators.
I think also, tomorrow i will be ordering from RA my passenger axle, and all the coolant hoses for the car. Outside of that, i just have to reloom the harness and fill her with fluids.
Im hoping that a week from monday i will be bringing her home
Oh i can only hope. As long as nothing goes wrong.
I still have a slight issue with the older N-body cables that is preventing me from getting the car into first and second gear. The selector cable just isnt being pulled far enough to engage those two gears. So im in the process of modding and using the 94 selector arm since it requires less travel to make up the distance. We'll see how that goes when i get back out there.
More coming

It looks as if RhinoPac #167500 is for the 2.8, 3.1 V6 the 2.0 and 2.2 4 cylinder... Call them out on it and tell them that ANY GTZ and Z26 with the Quad4 referencing that flywheel is incorrect.90GTZHO wrote:Yeah the flywheel i put in the car, came from a 92 W41 engine. Re: My GTZ Returns--Update 2/11
Just look at more of their listings... for a 1992 Beretta V6 3.1 GT with a 5-speed they list the 167500 flywheel...
I also just googled the two part numbers and different sites came up with them and the 167500 was listed for 3.1 and so on, and the 167524 came up as the quad 4 2.3L
Not sure where else you can get info unless you call AMS Automotive the maker of RhinoPac and get info from their catalog... They don't have a free online version.

Re: My GTZ Returns--Update 2/11
So update on whats going on.
I have all the remainder of the parts on the way, axle and short heater hose will be here thursday, the rest of the hoses wont be here till monday it looks
So sadly, i cant bring her home this weekend. I have the fluids, just need an oil filter, so i can get the car filled with trans, and engine oil, and get the rest of the wiring fixed up, starter mounted, intake manifold on, and start working on the intake. Exhaust manifold wont be going back on till i get the other heater hose. Its much easier to do when its not in the way
Work looks like its a lil slow this week, so there is a chance i can start getting the car completely back together and functional by the end of the weekend (provided my other 3 hoses make it here by friday). I will take pics as i go, and as long as the weather isnt too bad, i can get some better pics. Im also hoping that i can do a lil painting to the front bumper to get the car to two colors vs the 3. I did like the two color combo, but, the blue and white doesnt quite fit the engine color scheme of red and aluminum. So, before Bfest, i will have the one back to one color......i hope!
Im contemplating a headlight change as well. Now, whether or not i do it is a different story altogether. Im thinkin about the E36 swap, but, i dont want to do ones with the halos. While they look good on beemers, im not too much a fan of them on the beretta. So the stock type E36s (without halos), if i decide to do them, will be the ones i choose to do.
More on the way!
