So I finally got back from the Chicago Region SCCA "Learning Curve" class for all the noobs like me who want to get into autocross. some classroom time and ALOT of track time. We did about half an autocross course today and it was intense. Alot of cars...cough..cough...Mustangs spun out. A Scion TC with aftermarket turbo broke down. I pushed the Beretta hard today, surprisingly understeer was minimal on tight bends with the awesomeness of powering out the apex thanks to Front wheel drive FTW!!! I need to up the PSI on the fronts (became apparent on my personal tire inspection afterwards as the sidewalls started wearing down). I'm classed as STF [Street Touring Front wheel drive]. Me and this Nissan 240 became good friends but even though he's classed in the RWD category, My Best time beat his by .4 of a second on the course. We raced for 3 hours nonstop to get a good solid feel on autocross.
I'm really beat, this stuff takes alot out of you. Really fun, glad I'm finally getting into it. Tomorow's the last day for this class and it's going to be a scrimmage kind of meet where they're actually going to keep official time. Looking forward to it!
2 weeks from now, my official season begins, Hope I don't get creamed by more experienced, faster, sexier cars too badly when it starts.

Thanks, looks real promising. I just ordered new Dunlop Direzza d101's from tirerack that should really help next time. Those used obscure tires on it now aren't doing me any favors when it comes to cornering grip.

My eternal rival in these things are now Golf GTI's, oh how much I despise their better than me performance.

Yes I can understand how you feel about the GTI's. I have somehow lost track of your car. I swear that I have read every post. Do you have a strut tower brace and the shock tower brace? Did you get a CAI? And have you ever thought about a BPi velocity stack?

^^^I have the strut tower brace, want to get an MRZ rear one down the road. Cold air intake is on the to do list and those BPi velocity stacks doesn't look bad at all. I'm no scientists but it looks like they know what they're talking about and it would make sense to smooth out the turbulence.

Oh the Irony. I've always been changing the "look" of my car. Then it comes full circle where I said to myself yesterday, "I like the way the original, clean, beretta looks."

So with that, I changed it back to a face we all recognize on berettas.
And I'm keeping it that way.

You know I like the Euro's on your car better. Yeah snag a MRZ rear bar as soon as you can. Really there is no room for a V stack and a filter when using a CAI. There is more than enough room when you use a WAI.

^^I had the rear shock tower bar further down on my list of priorities, now is there really a noticeable difference with it on during hard cornering? I know with the front, it definitely felt like a flatter ride but for the rear i figured sway bar first b/c i hear around these parts that it's night and day with the handling once installed.

as for the headlights, yeah Euro's are awesome but I wanted to keep my car in line with Beretta Race cars!!!

Great photos, don't know where you find them, but they are always nice to see.
Well for the front and rear they do great things to a car with weak spings(both helped me alot and the rear was the most help). As for a car(like yours) with good springs you would have to push it hard(something that you are doing). Heavywoody is the man to talk to on Auto X by the way.

Sure would be nice if we could somehow put up all the Beretta racing photos that can be found here. Even the pace car stuff(a little more real). Oh and the 1/4 mile stuff too. Most of that would be foolish pride, but hey, not all the makes and models have done it. Even if it is just a body.

Got the 195/55R15 Dunlop Direzzas DZ101's today, Tirerack really has lighting fast shipping, surprises me everytime.....aaaaand that's why i keep coming back to them!

AutoX today with the new dunlop direzza's:

A 3 second improvement thanks to the power of tires!

Oh and I Beat out a '06 Volkswagen Rabbit and an '09 Honda Accord in my class. Serves them right to try to take on a '95 base Beretta

Put the Beretta through its paces at AutoX yesterday. The course layout this time wasn't as technical as before and definitely favored speed.
Unfortunately, handling is what my car banks on, and speed is its vulnerability.
I pushed the car to its limits, I mean there was no way in hell I could have gotten a faster time than the 84.092 I posted; least it was a good enough time to keep me from last in class (Probe GT V6!)
Not going to lie, Scion TCs with a decent setup are deceptively quick!





*not to self, repaint the side mirror right this time around, paint's peeling from my 1-2-3 job and the indy Teal is showing through in all its glory!!!
