Re: My GTZ Returns!
Aight guys, were straying off topic a lil bit here. Remember, this is a thread about my project with my car, not a discussion about what size brakes are the best
Im surprised no one has asked me about my finding, hmm, must not be as big a deal as it used to be....

Well you have a W41 logo in your sig now, that kinda gives it away doesn't it...

Re: My GTZ Returns!
yeah, but i posted it up on the original start, and no one noticed. Used to be, if someone made any mention of W41 stuff, everyone was all "Oh how sweet! Where you find it, what are your plans, blah, blah, blah". Doesnt seem to be the case anymore i guess. Oh well, it will still be nice to have. Heres a pic of the cover all cleaned up.

The original paint was so bad it only had about 60% of it left. I plan on repainting it, but not sure what color just yet.

Re: My GTZ Returns!
I sure hope so
With the cams, trans, and hopefully a reprogramed chip, im aiming for 14's. Shouldnt be too hard now that i will have a clutch that holds vs one that slips off the face of the flywheel. And of course, the cover will help me out atleast .1
lol

Re: My GTZ Returns!
I have the W41 cams, but im not gonna turbo it as i stated in my first post
That idea was mid-project before i scrapped it. I love the sound of an N/A Quad to give it up.

Re: My GTZ Returns!
Alright, so i was able to get my motor/trans out my car yesterday. Was kinda funny doing so, i didnt think after i first put the motor in, that i would be pulling it out ~30k to do a complete reseal of it. But alas, people, this is what happens after that amount of time when you use crappy gaskets! Learn from my 6 year old mistake to NOT half-ass anything!
You can see the oil residue from when things really started gettin bad, and this is after its been cleaned up a couple times

Re: My GTZ Returns!
You can see in the second pic my port job i did to the head when i had it all apart during the rebuild.
Heres how bad it got around the accessory bracket

Also discovered that my clutch didnt slip, the throw-out bearing/slave assembly took a crap

Looks pretty good to me, only thing i found i didnt like was this:

Good thing im putting all new stuff in either way. This time American made stuff, found out the clutch i bought from Napa last time, was made by the same company that put their clutch in an AC Delco box
A shot of the trans and whatnot

Re: My GTZ Returns!
My overall plan is to undo things with this motor i did when i had a slight tickle of ricer go thru me. So, all the red and silver paint is coming off, all the aluminum will be its natural color, all the parts that were black, will be black again, but, the block im going to keep red. I like the color it turned out to be and its not all that unpleasant to the eye. The cover, im still up in the air about what color to make it. Im going back and forth between red and black with polished off ribs and lettering.
Powertrain out, and needing to do a lil cleanup, reloom the harness, and more solidly weld in the forward trans mount

My 2.5" downpipe, i need to do a lil cleaning up on the inside and get those welds that bled thru smoothed out.

And finally, just a pic of the cleaned up cover just for whatever purposes

I'll have more on the way soon
Comment all you want

Re: My GTZ Returns!
Yeah chad i know, i have full plans to do so. Lucky me, i have all the right equipment to do it right now
Heres pics from today, got the motor cleaned up a bit and torn down to the block. Everything is lookin good so far cept a couple minor things. The timing chain tentioner shoe was pretty badly scratched (dont have pics) and my number 1 cylinder wall has a vertical scratch in it somehow.
The inside of the motor otherwise, looks very, very clean! After this reseal, im gonna be switching the car over to Mobil1 from the Valvoline i have been using.
After pressure washing

Inside the timing housing

A lil closer look at the exhaust side of the head's port job

Chain

Re: My GTZ Returns!
And heres a look at the pistons and cylinder walls.
Cylinder 1, still not sure how that scratch got there, all the others are fine

Im hoping the scratch is nothing, but we'll see. Whats everyones opinions on the tops of the pistons? Do they look alright for 30-32k miles?
Please discuss and comment!
