Damn I forget what company was used to ship my trans. Green and gray trucks.
That would be too long of a drive and I don't have a friend good enough to do it.
Think it would fit in the trunk(lol)?

A trans fits in the trunk... maybe an engine if you remove the spare tire and such... but I doubt it.

I've shipped and recieved a lot of big crap. If you're receiving the item via freight carrier you WILL need a business address to receive the item. This is non-negotiable with most carriers.

If youre shipping it yourself: Get a sturdy pallet from about anywhere and put an old tire on it. Place engine on tire and then shrink wrap the engine. Then secure the engine to the pallet through the lift points using ratcheting tie downs. Next step is to frame it up sturdy using 2x4s because whoever you ship it with is going to stack crap all on top of the engine.

Next step is to call your local over the road outfits. Hit the yellow pages in a real phone book if all else fails.

Remember - do not leave any fluids in the engine or anything that can make a mess. Make sure the engine is ratcheted down well and leave some way for the shipping company to tighten it up again too - that's why ratchet straps rule.

Now here's the thing on buying... for me anyways... big junkyards like LKQ do this for a living. They get cheaper shipping rates and they offer short term warranties as any reputable yard should. I've bought several used engines sight unseen and had them shipped to me. I've not once been let down, using big reputable yards is key.

My Camaro brought home its own trans from Herkimer and my old Beretta brought home Boner's 5spd from Illinois. haha Shane that's the 5spd I gave you 2 years ago.

Lightweight flywheels are overrated in my opinion. A lighter flywheel will rev quicker, but stores less energy. Drive a car with a big cam and an alum fw without stalling it...it's tough!

Thats what this topic is about... the 04+ lighter FLEXPLATE. People please use the right terms too... Flywheels are for 5-speeds, Flexplates are for Automatics. And if you knew the weight of a flexplate already you would realize that the one in the 04+ engines is as light as you can get it.

would the newer flexplate be worth it in your opinion for around $40-$50?

I swear that what I read said that the 3400 had the light weight one on it. They also put the 8mm rocker studs on the 3100 from the 3400 to lower cost. Check this link:

Slinky - if you want one so badly... I've pretty sure the one from my 04 3400 is hanging in my shop. Pay $20 plus $10 to ship and its yours.
