I just noticed guides are included in the setups. I don't know if there are advantages of either design. I refer to them as double or single because its an easy way to distinquish the difference. The covers are different along with water pump gear in the cover and tensioner. I have purchased 3 dual chain design(1st design) setups. The guides were discontinued. This post is clearing that up and some new places to find these parts.

1st design parts were discontinued at GM. I ordered my set in 2001 when they were available.

Is anyone interested in +/- 4 degree gears? I need to get another set made as one of mine broke from someone not torquing the bolt correctly.

23mm wide....what is 1st design width.

Where are you seeing a timing set that says the guides are included? The only one I see is the 2nd design that has the tensioner, shoe, and guides, the rest are simply the three gears and the chain... period.

Are you guys not reading into this enough or am I going crazy and reading a hoax webpage?

1st design width, if you look at a shoe for the tensioner, ONLY guide part avilable, is supposidly 1.004" wide, which is 25.5mm

attached image of timing sets... no where does it say guides included except for ONE 2nd design set shows all the shoes.

The one set for 300 might include guides, but it has a stock photo and no description.

When i saw the guides included. I was referring to the 2nd design. If I were looking for guides, i would consider Chads. Mine have little mileage. When my gear broke in 2008 i thought i got lucky because NAPA had one in stock at a warehouse.

I recommended the kit with the guides well before this thread, but as noted he would have to source the cover and wp gear to swap to the 2nd design and as I said before, others feel that is a downgrade, so the statement still stands the only way he is going to get new guides is to buy chads or change the whole design of the chain.

I have yet to hear back from Mike... Where are the 1st design guides on rock auto you speak of? Or did you realize you were wrong and just can't even respond to it now?

This isn't a debate, you outright told me I was WRONG... and I just can't find the evidence to prove that... did you see 2nd design guides and think they were the 1st design? I thought that the first time I looked then I realized they were all marked as 2nd if there was any sort of guide avilable... rendering him out of luck if he wishes to keep the 1st design.
