Also I don't understand why your testing it in gear on the gas, your torque converter is stopping the rpm from climbing, or at least I can't tell what "malfunction" your talking about. The RPMS will not climb any higher than that in gear.
But I agree with SCD, if it wont start hot change your crank position sensor and/or have your ignition module tested.

Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
I do this test because this is how the Beretta hesitates when I am driving around town. In the video I rev the car to about 1200 rpm then the rpm goes down even though I am giving it the same throttle. I did this same test on my 3.1 Beretta and it does not have that problem.
Today I took my ICM and Coils to test at autozone and they told me everything is good. Changed crank sensor and no difference. What I noticed today is that it starts perfect when it is cold but as soon as it gets warm it has bad idle. After getting warm I shut it down try to start it right away and it will not stay on. Last I noticed it really smells like gas at the tailpipe.

Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
Those testers that the parts stores use to check the ICM don't usually get it hot enough for it to fail. Have you tried swapping the ICM yet from your 3.1?

Swap the ICM and coils with the ones from the 3.1 and see if the issue goes away.
Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
Heys guys since I have a extra ECM I wanted to install it just to make sure it is not the ECM. How should I install it. Do I need to keep the chip and install it on the new computer or can I just change the whole computer. I have a extra ECM and chip.

You need to make sure the chip is the same as what you have to use that in your car, but you can try the ECM and re-use your chip... but since the ECM shouldn't get "hot" I'm really leaning toward it being an ignition issue. Coils or ICM since those are directly under your exhaust manifold.
Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
What do mean by the same? I got the chip from a 2.8 Beretta with digital cluster.

The chip has to be from exactly the same application as what your trying to run it on. The ECU's are interchangeable if you use the proper chips. I don't see how that's hard to understand
Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
Well I replaced the ICM and no change but I got a code 44 and my old spark plugs were black what do guys think?

Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
Did you swap the coils too?
Code 44 is lean condition detected... Have you checked out the O2 sensor yet? You may have coated it with carbon and thats affecting its reading, but I would try coils see if that cures the dark plugs, then look into injectors.
I'm not sure how well that O2 is after being drenched with fuel like it sounds like it has been, or at least judging the color of the plugs that sensor has to be caked.

I've had a bad plug cause this problem before .. , Also a "sticking" EGR valve will cause a hesitation or stall , Before you do injectors i would also check these first. What type of EGR do you have? ( i think there are three different types )

How do you test a egr valve? my egr has a vacuum line and electronic connector.

Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
When your car starts its problem , inspect the egr ( see if its stuck open )
On mine , It was dirty and sticking open /I have 88 base 2.8 manual style diaphram egr - I just cleaned around the parts of it i could reach with qtips and carb cleaner (while pushing the diaphram open , ignition off .) That fixed my stumbling problem without having to remove it and clean the passageway.
Try this ...with your car running push upward on the EGR diaphram ... the motor will start to stumble ,let go and see how long it takes it to return to closed position.
Hope maybe that helps

Re: Automatic 2.8 GTU Hesitating
So today I decided to change the parts from the 3.1 to the 2.8 and the gtu has the same problem. I got the spark plugs, spark plug cables, TPS, IAC, Coils, ICM, MAF Sensor, and o2 sensor from the 3.1 and left them on the 2.8. Put the 2.8 parts on 3.1 and it works great. Also bought new PCV valve.
Just need to change cranksensor, injectors, fuel pump, and egr. What other things can be causing the problem?
