Been there done that... I'll agree with you there. Had to go to the BBB and file a complaint to get the "upgraded DVR" they promised me when I re-signed... at first they sent a HR-22 and my current is a HR-23.... All I wanted was HR-24 and in the end I did get it ;)

I didn't make that statement because I wasn't sure if that was true, I knew Dish was having issues with AMC... but I didn't know if they just accepted the higher Viacom rate or if they are going to fight it too.

Bottom line for me DirecTV is the cheapest option in my area, and I love the whole home DVR setup I have... By reading what Dish had when I was planning on upgrading to it, it sounds like the DirecTV option is better.

I have DirecTv and the current events haven't affected me in The least. I still have no problem finding something on to that will turn my brain to mush. But I'm not to big into tv anyway I suppose. If it wasn't for the wife and kids I probably wouldn't even have TV service.

I have Dish and honestly, didn't even watch many of those channels. Netflix FTW.

Netflix they say is one of the reasons why television is getting so expensive. I thought it was pretty sweet when my Dads new sony tv had a netflix button ON the remote. I just need to hook him to his network and get him signed up.

Haha. You can even have him piggy back on your own Netflix account. I have 2 computers, one Wii, and one Sony media/internet TV box all using the same Netflix account. And the Wii is in Canada, so it only gets the shows available there, not the ones in the US, even though its a US account. That's due to its IP location though. Yet Netflix blocks my laptop while I'm up there, yet the Wii works fine. Go figure. :P

Now that, you may have to be careful of. All the ones I have active, either I use, or a family member does. Too many, and they may block your account, especially if they report from different IP addresses. Just saying.

:P

Just got done building me my first HTPC.... BluRay burner equipped, HDMI, Nero Platinum 10, AnyDVDHD (I actually bought a copy couple years ago) and a few other odds and ends. ITX form factor system, so its TINY! lol

Sure beats having to buy a blu ray player, this thing will do that and so much more! :D

Dish Network blacked out Fox in 2010, now AMC. I'm tired of cable/sat co's, & I'm getting a Free to Air set up soon!

Europe & Asia, Russia etc.. have used FTA for years, it works great. You set up the receivers, point the dish & boom, TV (usually around 400-500 channels right away). You can flash it for movie channels(the codes expire like the old days), or run it as-is. The receiver picks up all the free channels depending on where the dish is pointed. My friend has been running a FTA set up for 8 yrs, he likes it, only cost involved it buying the equipment. You can use an old Dish Networks/Direct TV dish with the FTA receiver too. The only drawback is you need multiple receivers, but if you've ever dealt with cable boxes you know what that involves.

I watch a handful of shows, we pay good money to Dish Networks(they only made 3.6 billion in profits last year), time to cut them off..
