Yeah i know, question is, how much and will i have the cash?
Jon, are you saying your not pulling your whole power train out the bottom? I would hope your pulling your trans out the bottom atleast, would be rather...interesting to say the least to see someone try and yank a trans out the top without the motor lol

Re: My GTZ Returns--Update 2/16 Lots of Pics!
Okay, so yesterday i mad an attempt to get as much on my car done as i could. My goal was to get the engine bay completely done and then today get the body parts back on. However, my project of modding the newer style lower coolant pipe was a HUGE time consumer yesterday. I spent pretty much most of the day trying to get the pipe modded to fit. Once again, it ended in failure. However, on a brighter note, i was able to remove what I screwed up and replace it with another section. After tinkering with that for a bit, i finally decided to start working on something else.
I got the rest of the wires run, and the injector harness loomed, the alternator mounted, thermostat housing mounted and sensors connected. I was about to mount the intake manifold when i realized that i still have to repair one on my starter wires, and attach the power feed to it. So for now, the intake is just sitting on the motor with a couple bolts on. I do have the injector rail and lines hooked up, so i was able to get that done. Sadly, during the day i had started feeling like total and utter crap. Somehow on Friday i managed to get myself sick and didnt think much of it yesterday till the end of the day. So now im home for today and maybe off from work tomorrow so i can get myself better. Looks like shes gonna have to wait another weekend
Sorry everyone, i wasnt feeling so great, so i have no pics from yesterday, but i will have some next weekend i hope.
Hopefully more next weekend....

Oh god, no, Just the motor out the top... The damn engine is so tall you have to lift the car ungodly high to get it out from under it. Its way easier to just pull up.90GTZHO wrote:Yeah i know, question is, how much and will i have the cash?

I have a trans jack now so that's UBER easy to go in and out with... I just had to buy SUV height jackstands so I could clear the frame rails.
I actually did install the trans once alone, and then put the motor in... It was easy to do, but I found out later that it's MUCH easier to have the motor in first since there is nothing to set the angle of the trans until you have the engine in there so aligning it is near impossible when putting the motor in.
Where are you getting your wire loom from? Stuff I bought from Advance auto just melted like crazy anywhere near the headers on my car... But the stock stuff can withstand it...
I need something better to replace whats melted now.

Re: My GTZ Returns--Update 2/20
The stuff i got is from Napa. They say it rated to like 250*. Although, i dont have a header, and i have the hood vents extracting heat, so i dont think it will be as much of a problem for me as you. Also, i have less motor in the bay, so more room for circulation.

Re: My GTZ Returns--Update 2/20
Aight, so today, with me feeling better, i was determined to get as much done as i could today. Unfortunately, today was also the day that i decided to sleep till about 1030a. Nevertheless, i drug my ass out of bed, got ready and headed to my dads.
Yesterday i had my coolant pipe fixed by a friend at a local radiator shop so it was good to go. For progress, i didnt get as far as i wanted but im much closer now than i was last weekend. I got the coolant pipe installed and bolted in, heater hoses installed, upper and lower hoses test fitted and tied on, engine completely wired, both battery cables loomed, intake manifold installed and replugged (open holes filled with pipe plugs from the factory), IDI cover polished up some more and electronics installed, oil sending unit relocated to intake cam tower, cruise control bracket reinstalled and supported, belt put on, and vent hoses for the oil/air box plumed. I also got the 92+ coolant tank fitted and installed. Only thing with that is i have to grab the support tray for the evap canister from a 92+ car as my canister doesn't sit low enough to clear the tank, easy fix there.
Only things really left to do under the hood is install the battery tray and battery, intake and intake box, get two plugs for the trans cooler lines on the radiator and install that, the fan, both CV axles, bleed the clutch slave out, and get the strut bar installed. I have a line on some firewall covers, so i will be getting those to help with the aesthetics in there. Im also going to paint the top section of the coolant bottle satin black to look more like stock tanks (i think this one was an aftermarket replacement). I also have to find a couple of exhaust pipe to manifold bolts with springs, get a manifold to pipe gasket and get a TB gasket.
Also have to reinstall my lower strut brace, but i will do that when the axle go back in. Im up in the air about the TB right now. Currently i have my original 92 red one on there. I have another 92 tb in my shed i was going to clean up and paint the same aluminum color the rest of the engine parts were painted with. Im thinkin just keep the look, im going and use the aluminum one, get the red out of there. Now on with the pics!

92+ coolant tank fitted

Getting close to shutting things down for the night

And for your viewing pleasure, the cover installed with a few other things done and my stopping point for the night

The great thing about doing this radiator swap and hose change, is the upper hose allows for more room to work with under the hood for a nicer looking cold air intake setup. Now here's the bad news for anyone with a 90-91 Quad powered Beretta, this swap does not work for you if you wish to keep your ac. Since i made the choice long ago to abandon mine, i have all the room in the world and nothing to worry about. The good news it, i wont have a coolant hose rubbing on my lower frame anymore or to collect road dirt and debris with. That's the one thing that always bothered me about the early quad setups, next to the front mount situation.
I have the stuff to swap the 99 N-body outer joint from my original axle to the new one, however, i need a beefier clamp than what i found at Vatozone. So that will wait till next weekend or whatnot. I really want to fire my car this weekend, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. But i can continue to make progress till i can turn the key once again.
Im also going to start workin on my body appearance package that i have come up with. A surprise that will have to wait till after its all done
Gotta keep you guys and gals in the dark on something since i spoiled the rest of it lol.
Keep checking back in, comment, discuss, hell go crazy lol.

...but you also need to relocate the windshield washing fluid tank. I guess you are also going +92 route there!?

Geoff...some of those tanks had black tops, some didn't. I would leave it the way it is... I think it would look worse if you painted it. Just my $.02.
Looks good my friend!!!
P.S. - I know where some firewall covers are too...still in the box you put them in!!!
I also was going through my trunk and found rear sway bar brackets I forgot about last time I was there!!!

Yes i am thinking about doing the 92+ washer tank swap as well. I havent full decided if thats what i want to do or just install a different bottle somewhere else in the engine bay.GTZfan wrote:...but you also need to relocate the windshield washing fluid tank. Yeah, i almost picked up a black top tank, but it was from a 94 Grand Am with the OHC and it had a second port up top for the bleed line from the "t-stat" housing. This one has the single port and was in much better shape. Im kinda in the air about painting it right now. Only reason i would do so is to break up the engine bay a lil bit more. Right now i feel as if its still exceptionally bright and the engine is getting lost in the bay. So i may do it, i may not. I'll do some photo shopping to see what i think.
Ron im not sure on those covers, cause i have to cut them up to make the bar fit. Someone offered me a set that has some cracks in them so im not ruining a mint set, but i will keep you posted. And yeah, i still need those swap bar brackets lol.
This tank i yanked from a 95 with a 2.2 in it. And i have seen others (93, 94) that had this tan tank. I dunno, maybe its an aftermarket tank3X00-Modified wrote:pre 96 had black tops, my 96 tank I painted.

Keep the white. Nothing screams clean like gleaming white.
I like what you've got going here. So fresh and so clean. This is making me get all nostalgic hahaha. Honestly though, there are far more quality cars in our community now than ever before. I love the number of quality builds these days.
win.

The black top/white top thing is weird. My 94 had a black and my 95 had white but I have seen black 95 and 96's too.

Re: My GTZ Returns--Update 2/27 Moah Pics!
I used SEM Black trim paint... I also cut off and sealed that second air bleed that went over to the t-stat... Some of the reason why I painted it since there was a slight scar from doing that. Painted it doesn't show much at all.

Cool beans Jon thanks! I will play around with it and see what happens. See how things turn out. I have some plugs for the radiator trans cooler lines, a better CV boot strap, throttle body and exhaust gaskets coming tomorrow. There is a chance it will be slow on wednesday so i may try to get her fired up that day we shall see.
Thanks Kurt for your compliments
