DTMAce's 95 Black Base - THE BAMBI KILLER! - New Pics 5-1!
Re: DTMAce's 95 Black Base - THE BAMBI KILLER!
Well, all I can do is eventually fix it back up. Don't sweat it man. Blame the deer! I do! But wow that looks good!
Once I hear from the adjuster and get that sorted, I will take the next step. More than likely I will just end up fixing things. Providing the deer stay the hell out of my way.
I feel bad for you, I never thought or wanted these things to happen to the car! Its turning into a real beast....

Where did you get the holder with the clips on it for the wires, that looks handy to have, im one of those guys that solders everything too...DTMAce wrote:Update:
Worked on the stereo harness today for the head unit. Brandon, find your friend and slap the crap out of him. LOL
Thought I would show how it should be done. Yeah, I moved the HU around and the front speakers would quit working. However I still have no sub yet. Have to check a few more things, either the patch cable is bad, or I have something wrong at the sub. It has power, and for a short bit I had some thumps, but it didn't last very long. So that tells me its a loose wire maybe. I will figure it out though. I still have to tie up the sub wiring and I didn't have a before shot... So meh...
Now to get some other work done!
Those subs would sound better rear facing, forward always sounds like junk.. are those 10's ?? i have a rockford 10 single coil i found at the dump and it works lol. i have 2 rockford 12's dual coils for in my car though, my amp is currently blown up, run it for 2 years finally fryed it, just a little 4 channel rockford 300 punch bridged to 2 channel and gains cranked LOL.. next on my list is a brand new rockford mono block 500 watt punch.
Re: DTMAce's 95 Black Base FKA The Black Beauty - So it begi
Actually, I have had the box both ways and it sounds about the same. Personally I would rather ditch this bigger box and build one similar to the one I have in the Z. These are 12"s. I am only using them for sub harmonics, so they do nothing but thump. They do fine, and since I have tuned the system and balanced it, it sounds pretty good, but the head unit is dying. I should be picking up another one here soon. Once I get the paypal address for the seller. Then later some matched speaker pairs.beretta wrote:Where did you get the holder with the clips on it for the wires, that looks handy to have, im one of those guys that solders everything too...DTMAce wrote:

And cranking the gains is not what you should do to an amp. I never have to run my amps with the gain cranked up, you get more distortion. Instead always match your speaker power requirements with an amp that can handle both the ohm load and such.
Good rule of thumb is 2 to 1. If a speaker has a rating of say 200W peak, use an amp with an RMS rating of 100W. I currently have a 600W dual coil 12 inch in the Z. It is powered by a 200W amp. However the amp is in 2 channel bridge mode and the speaker is wired with both coils in parallel for a total of 2 ohms. That 200W amp pushes that speaker just about perfectly.
I also always back the low freqs out of the in car speakers, so they don't have to work so hard, makes them able to carry the higher freq sounds at a louder volume without distortion, since I make the sub carry the lows as its designed to do. Then its a matter of balancing the volume of the normal speakers and the volume of the subs so it sounds even. Do that by setting all the eq stuff to neutral, no pop, rock, classical settings or even custom. Disable any boost or loudness options. Basically get the radio set to default settings with no enhancements. Do the same with the sub, set the gain to the middle setting and turn off any boost or other features, outside of bridging or high/low bandpass filters, etc. Then you can play some various music, and using the radio's built in subwoofer output controls, adjust it more or less so it sounds even (if your radio supports such a feature) or use the gain to adjust in the same fashion.. But only use the gain as a last resort, if you have no other way to adjust the volume of the sub setup via the head unit.
As for that holder. I have had that since I was 19. Got it as part of my electronic kit when I took ITT classes back in 90. So I have no idea where it really came from. But I seem to recall seeing something similar in Radio Shack many years ago. Not sure if even they have one now. I have used that thing for countless projects, handiest soldering tool to have, since we don't have 3 or 4 hands.. LOL

Re: DTMAce's 95 Black Base - THE BAMBI KILLER!
well it would be handy for me then the wife can stop complaining with me leaving burn marks in the table or on her plates or anything lol....
the amp i had was given to me couple years ago, its a 4 channel but is bridgable to 2. i run my subs at 4 ohm it sounded best on this amp. not even sure the rating for my subs they are older, rockford dual voice coil. i could pull one and check the model some day.. the amp worked great, and it was loud. my girlfriend could hear me when i pulled into town she would be texting me where are you i can hear you lol. it was a good clear sounding system.
The amp was rated 300 rms watt. i had a jbl 300 watt 2 channel and it didnt come close to what this rockford could put out.
Ive been looking at getting the Prime series rockford 500 watt, mono. they are $140 ish on ebay... a little more power then the old 300 i had and probably not too much for my subs. my box is blowing apart, time for a custom one that also takes up less space.
i could probably fix my amp if i had the right parts, one of the transistors blew up on it and i broke another one off taking it apart. not sure if thats the only problem with it. i miss my stereo LOL, its been like 2 months almost with no subs..

I have a nice Alpine head unit i just removed from my 96 z, was in it when i bought it and have used it since way back in april or may something i bought the car. i just put the kenwood from my 88 retta in it today. alpine CDE-9874L $50 plus shipping. im sure you will find something nicer closer for the same money though. it is like new condition..

Good Luck! lol

Re: DTMAce's 95 Black Base - THE BAMBI KILLER!
Well, its not totaled. The car is worth on their books at about 1700, and they have to stay 75% under the value to not total it. It could have easily been higher and subsequently gotten totaled out, but I was very willing to go with recycled parts. lol
They are cutting me a check for about 1200. Once I have that, I will have to get some parts that I need.
I already had the paint and stuff from the last hit.
Going to need a hood, fender, and a left wheel liner for a base. Oh and a front grill from a later model base in black, and a driver's side mirror. Probably just hit a junkyard with the van and get what I need.
Got to love State Farm.

That's great news! I'm not to big on State Farm though. They totaled my car and gave me 500 bucks. That was after I showed them 5k in repairs. Damn thing was almost restored.

Re: DTMAce's 95 Black Base - THE BAMBI KILLER!
Because you showed them after it happened. People pull that stuff all the time to scam the insurance company. I document the hell out of stuff, and let them know, provide pics, etc when things are done, rather than wait till after a claim.
It has gotten to the point now with my local agent, I don't even have to do a lot of documentation, they pretty much take my word on the claim. When I added the 95, they didn't even need pics of the car or anything, usually I provide that stuff so they know the condition, etc when I have the insurance started.
All I know is, the more leg work you do to be prepared, the more they will do for you.
The adjuster I know on a first name basis, he is the same adjuster that did the Z claim. He was even comparing pics he took from the first deer hit, to see if there were any other changes, etc. He has to do pics like that, of any dents or damage that may be present the first time you have a claim, so someone can't go and say they got that dent on this hit, etc... He could have very easily wrote this up so it ended being totaled, but with me not having a problem using recycled parts (who has a beretta here that has NOT used a part from another one, I mean really) that saved me a bunch.
Though.
I am tempted to still sell this one, take the money and go get me a yellow indy. LOL

Thanks for the tip. Didn't think of it that way.

Re: DTMAce's 95 Black Base - THE BAMBI KILLER!

Also with my policy, it automatically covers up to 1k in electronics/add-ons, etc. So if you have aftermarket stereo, speakers, or fancy wheels, whatever, it is auto covered up to that amount. Anything further, you would have to have extra coverage for it.
I also found that having a 500 dollar deductible on the health insurance part saves you way more than a deductible on your comp/collision coverage. They don't normally out and tell you that option is there... lol I look at it this way. Minor injuries, sprains or something I can heal from. Cars don't heal at all. And even though this is a high mileage beretta, I still have full coverage. I do think I have a deductible right now on collision though. Mostly because till I have had the car covered with State Farm for like a year or so I pay a bit more. Once it goes down, I will change that.
Right now, with full coverage on the van and on the 95, and storage insurance on the 94, I only pay around 155 a month.
