I'd almost bet on a alternator with bearings going out or a bad A/C clutch on it's way out. Quads DO eat ONE thing with zeal. Alternators.

Could be your water pump bearing. The OTHER WHITE MEAT.

The A/C clutch is usually a squeal, and so far for me typically so is the alternator. If you hear rattling, I'm almost going to guarantee that its the water pump. When it fails, you loose coolant, and your oil all at once.

Why would he lose his oil from a WP failure? That's just not true. I've lost a WP before (more than a few times) in a Quad and have NEVER "lost my oil" or my OP. Matter of fact ,that's what the weep hole is there for. When it starts bleeding coolant outta the WP you know it's done. I've heard many A/C compressors "grind" or "rattle" on their way out. Alternators tend to usually squeal, but I've heard them rattle too.
At any rate, Tvc, you now have some avenues of investigation!

well I am pretty sure I may have to bring it to a mechanic to figure out where the noise is coming from.. doesn't sound like an alternator issue, sounds like it's coming from below.

probably the AC compressor then. Loose bering causes that pulley to wobble and touch the apply part of the compressor and when it does it has a very distinct jingle sound.

Yup, sounds like your A/C compressor is shitting the bed.

Because the waterpump is splined into the timing chain, and the timing chain is oiled. When the bearing on the water pump fails, it doesnt weep, there is a giant HOLE there.
And by fail I dont mean its a little loose, ive had more than one simply explode.

ok, is that expensive to replace? I mean I know the timing chain is a pain and costly, but I would like to know whats my cost will probably be
Re: 1992 Quasar Beretta GTZ - Top end swap completed! Vid up
and its definitely a rattling noise, not a tingle or squeal, more like a rattling/so waterpump bearing type deal?

Sounds like a slack timing chain to me. Doubt it's the WP. Sounds more like a bad tensioner. WP is OUTSIDE the TC Cover and if you're hearing a rattle inside the TC Cover and your WP is bad the only way that is possible is the gear that DRIVES the WP is wobbling and then you ARE in trouble!! I bet it's a bad tensioner or other timing component.

Its your water pump. I promise. There is this thing called harmonic transfer. It SOUNDS like its inside your timing chain. But its not.
The only part of the water pump thats outside the timing cover is the impeller. The BEARING is inside the cover, on a spline, on a gear (gear has its own bearing, that isn't available to be replaced), thats on the timing chain. When the race falls apart, it causes that rattle. Ive had this on not less than two separate Quads. Either way. That cover is coming off.
Just look back there, I bet the shaft on the pump going into the timing cover is able to be flopped around by hand almost.
Mike, when is the last time you listened to a quad with a bad tensioner? Because they don't make a rattle, the make a horrible slapping piston meets valve type noise. lol There isn't much to "fail" on the early style tensionier, its a spring and a plunger. They don't really wear out, but they do get gummed up.
