Nice beater, Kurt =). I kinda want a Beretta for Winter/daily as well, but that won't be happening for a while.

Chad, I shipped Jon a seat once as well =P. He reaaally reallly likes his base seats, especially when the foam is in good shape =P. I think he used my old passenger seat as a donor for his drivers seat.

Well I got the car all white. But I have no way to upload pics.

In the meantime I got dumb and hit a curb so the car is also sporting a bent control arm and a z51 GT steel wheel with spare snow tire....

I love my Base seats, most comfortable seat I've ever sat on actually. If anyone ever comes across a decent garnet driver seat for a '94-95 Base, let me know. Mine is ripped to hell.

Well, its back to riding on a full set of black xlaces now. When it warms up I'm going to replace the tweeked control arm, and the thing needs a cd player like a crack head needs a hit. It'll be getting a different set of wheels for summer driving and its cruise control stolen eventually... but all in all it won't be getting much more for mods.

Ill try to tag a photo... its uploaded via facebook so maybe some will be able to see it.

I've got a set of crosslaces. They came on Shane's car when I bought it.

So... time has come to update this thread. :)

This thing got detailed the other day along with the black car, so of course photos were taken. Along the lines of what's new: gas door hinge from Geoff (90GTZHO), it's black in color but looks kinda cool on the white car, far better than any other color besides white. Plus since it's mint - I have no plans of painting it. I also got a blue console lid from 88_GTU, a blue one too, and got it on the car.

Image

I've also started tearing down on the spare 3400 I got. Being a 99 engine I don't want any of the top end parts for the black car - so it seems like the white is a good place to put those pieces. So here's a few tear down pix:

My new favorite way to drain oil:

The valves seem pretty clean, most look about like this (nevermind the crap I knocked in there):

I've got a Felpro metal LIMG set, and eventually will get some 3.1 headgaskets. I'm still in the process of figuring out how to do the kickdown cable, but I've currently got a 3400 tb that was used on a 3t40 car... so between that or making my own adapter out of steel to put the 3.1 tb - I'll get it figured out. :D

It's been roughly forever and a half since I've updated this thread. The usual has gotten in the way, work, other vehicles, relationships, blaa blaa. To make a long story short my current DD 98 Lumina LTZ is getting crappy fast and it's just not really what I'm looking for any longer. So I decided to start looking at the used vehicle market, and anyone who has done that lately knows that IT SUCKS right now! Everything with reasonable mileage is priced through the roof, and everything else has a ton of miles for the asking price... I was really wanting a truck, preferably a midsize, 4x4, with enough grunt, braking capacity and transmission to handle pulling a car on a trailer - and also to be a daily driver mon-fri.... that lead me a few directions eventually looking at Toyota Tacomas 2005+, but they are worth their weight in gold. No way I'm dropping $20k on 2005 with 100k miles - just can't do it, I'm too frugal for that.

So I looked at some other trucks and just couldn't find something that met my liking on style, comfort and power - so I looked at cars a bit. Smaller than the Lumina and better on gas than the 3800 was the main requirement. 100k miles or under... and again a lot of the same issues.

So after all of that, I looked out in the driveway one day a few weeks ago and realized I've got a 113k 93 GT that has rarely been driven over the last 6-8 months. My dad has used it to get to work a bit just to put some miles on it, but really it was needing some help as of the last month or so. The brakes were acting a fool completely, one of the rear drums was sticking often, the fronts were rough, coolant was disappearing and it had developed a misfire...

Gradually, over the last few weeks I've been putting a ton of time into this thing. Here's a list of what's been done recently:
-new front pads & rotors
-new rear drums, shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware
-new fuel filter
-ac delco rapid fire plugs
-new plug wires
-coil packs and icm from my spare 3400
-gear reduction mini starter (old starter whined like hell from the day I bought it)
-new radiator
-96 cooling fan wired to a switch
-major engine bay cleaning

That brings it up to fairly current status. There is a lot of other stuff that has gone undocumented previously, but isn't terribly important. Saturday morning I took it to the car wash and experienced some traumatic paint loss on the trunk lid - so I got that pulled today and my spare lid put on the car. More photos regarding that situation are forthcoming. Looks like some painting will be in the future.

Image

I don't want to paint the whole car, but I'm going to have the trunk lid and at least passenger fender to paint. Some chipped away off the driver door too... :-\ no photos.

Pics kinda suck, but the phone is just handy and not completely awful.

I've scrounged up some audio stuff on a budget that will be showing up over the next week.

1.5 din Jensen cd player and some new, offbrand but quality looking 4x6 and 6x9 speakers to replace the failing factory stuff. I also need to work more on stopping the water leak, this thing is bad... Time to pull the carpet eventually.

nice. if you were still thinking a truck, look into the older mazda trucks ;) they got style, and i'm sure you could swap a decent engine in and make it tow-riggable. They are 1/2 ton trucks, but 4 cyl stock... lol my 1988 mazda b2600 4x4 has a chevy camaro 2.8 carbed v6 with a custom mated bellhousing attached to the stock mazda driveline from there. the truck needs a lot of work (like a complete body...), but i want to grab a 1994 ish camaro 3.4 engine and toss it in with the fuel injection system. that would provide some more pulling power... not huge, not nearly good enough for hilly regions, but usable. The last owner of the truck did the swap, and he had a single axle car trailer (which i almost bought off of him as well...), and towed his s10 dirt track truck to the track with the mazda.

Quite a bit goin on with the ole guy lately. I daily drove it for work every day last week, and it really felt good driving around town and did awesome on gas mileage. I didn't pull a true check or anything, but on a sales job where I rack up 25-30 miles per day on average for work (10-20 of my own also); $20 in gas got me around all week. The Lumina was demanding at least $10 per day, so this trade off has worked well.

One thing that has become apparent is that this car needs some better music options. I've always enjoyed putting together some audio help on a budget for my daily beaters, so for less than $100 I've got the following here or currently being shipped.

- Jensen 1.5 din cd AND CASSETTE!!! head unit (old and used off of ebay)
- Performance Teknique 4-way 6x9s (new speakers, unknown brand, a few decent reviews $22.90 and $8 shipped)
- Quantum Audio 3-way 4x6s (see above description but a bit cheaper)

The speakers have solid materials in their construction and decent power handling capability. We'll see what it all sounds like soon enough.

As some of the photos indicate, the car has mismatched mirrors and I just happened to stumble across a set of GTU mirrors on ebay. Got those Saturday and have them all cleaned up. One of these days they'll go on the car in black.

Another thing in progress is another new control arm. Passenger side this time, easiest way to get a new ball joint and bushings in my opinion. Should stop the only clunk left in the front end. After that it needs some engine mounts....

I've also been on a hunt for 21mm poly bushings to use on the z51 rear sway bar. I picked up some front bushings for a civic off of ebay, they're rather oversized for the brackets but with some work they should fit and hold the bar really well. Out of 4, I've got 1 fitting. 3 to go...

Beyond that I really need to get the car quieted down and stop the water leak on the driver side... The exhaust leaks right at the rear manifold and the muffler is shot.

Plenty to do... never enough time! I kind of banged up my foot over the weekend, so work has been light. I did paint the filler panels, and broke my upper in the process (see the Wanted section). So I've got a wavy crappy, 3 studded panel that I rushed to paint. I'll slap a photo up, a poor photo at that. They turned out well for just wiping them off and shooting them with spray paint and rattle can clear.

Looking like a good beater. I miss running my 95 around with chipped paint, etc. Didn't feel bad about using & abusing it.

When is the 3.4 going in?

The 3.4 hybrid swap project is on indefinite hold for this car at the time being. If I had a method that I was 100% certain would work for the throttle cables I'd do it this weekend, I've got all of the parts except for headgaskets. But, I don't have anything lined up for the cables except for a 3400 throttle body with 3.1 throttle plate rod and cable arms swapped onto. I still need something for bracketry on the engine side and a cruise cable solution (both 93 GTs need this currently).

I really need to find a couple of 94 3100s with cruise and snag the cables from them. I believe 94 still operated on vacuum cruise mounted on the firewall and would have the appropriate cable to fit my bastardized conglomeration of parts. LOL
