EWell... A master mechanic I know told me it wouldn't be wise to use one on another application, something to do with oil or the blades in the turbos.
LOL...you should walk away slowly from this 'master mechanic'...again for "all intense and purpose"...

That might be a peice of misinformation but this guy is no moron, I can guarentee you that. I don't think any old idiot could become a certified Master mech. I might have mixed his words up or something.

EDid he also tell you that you should use a turbo that would be on a 4 cyl. car to be used on a 10 cyl car just because they are both gas engines?
No, but thanks for the smart-arse input.

EAnd how many "master mechanics" tell you that you can't put a 3400 in a 3.1 Beretta?
Not many I'm sure, but this guy was the one who gave me my first 3400 and also gave me the idea of doing it.

You do realize though that most of the true "Master Techs" you are going to find, aren't actually certified with anything of which they do, its just the dumb tards that see that "ASE Certified Technician" logo and feel all warm and cozy inside.  I trust the work of my dad far over that of some "Master Technician."  When these Master Technicians can prove they have built cars striped to nothing chassis I may trust them some more.  Hell I would trust several more people on this message board alone over one

Well that's just it, he's not the kind that goes around bragging about it... a employee of advanced auto was trying to tell him the difference between types of motor mounts and he was like "Yeah I'm a mechanic I know what the difference is..." And the employee was like "Well I'm an A S E certified mechanic".
And of course the only way I know my friend is what he is because he came back with "Well I'm a certified MASTER mechanic,", lol. I believe he has stripped down and built his share of cars in his day.

If you can do the work more power to you.
If you can sit in class and be a book worm to get more pay in the end... sweet!
If you can do both, EVEN BETTER!

Hate to bring this thread a new flame, but how big exactly is a
CUMMINS turbo MODEL : YT50 PART # : AR12600 ?
Some pics of what it will look like (Not the actual turbo I am possible getting, but SAME type & everything) . Pics were borrowed from the web.
Is it in size huge? How about for a 3.1MPFI? Is it overkill for it, will not even spool it?
Should I walk away slowly?

I would like to see compressor maps for a Holset HE 351 , the Duramax, and this YT50 and see how they compare. ÂÂÂ

Ford 2.3l guys always swap Holsets in thier 4 popers. They spool up those monsters at 4K rpm on the little 2.3 and get 20-28psi.
Im sure a 3.1 wound have a field day. I cannot find any flow maps for my GM-8 turbo. But I expect it to be flowing about 45lbs min...no less. I see IHI maps for a RHE-8. On a diesel application..they support 450hp. With gasoline engines..thats 50+ hp more. IHI maps are real funky. They just show the max flow ratings..no efficiancy lines or anything.
That holset pictured above is actually small. WELL for a Cummins turbo. Its the early ones..there more like t3 .60s compressors with like t04 turbines.
