Re: Project: Slideways z26
Welcome to my world... Trying to get the race car done is the same timeline... March 30th... and look at its progress. I don't even have a usable body for it yet. OR parts to make it run... LOL Granted we can order everything but I'm stuck with the same work time frame, about 2 nights a week, 3 if we get parts and only from about 6pm to 10pm each time I'm there.Barry wrote:Yeah it's frustrating. It took me 2 nights just to make custom pedals. Every part I make takes a night and I only get to work on it 2 to 3 times a week
The biggest problem is we don't know what to order till we are in mid project, so we make lists and then wait 3days for parts to show up... Right now it oil lines and ignition that should be in tomorrow and after that it's steering column re-design to clear headers and hopefully sometime next week we'll have a body made up for it... yikes...

Hey barry can you do me a favor and measure the distance from the bottom of the pan to the top of the bellhousing i found a place that bends steel near me and the rest of the measurments ill get from the 700r4 Thanks!
Re: Project: Slideways z26
Hey Barry, since you got the motor and tranny in, how do you feel about the 3.4TDC fitting?? Since the remote mounted MC now up front, do you think theres room for the wide 3.4 to fit between the fenders??
Re: Project: Slideways z26
Ill get those measurements for you guys today. RWD 3.4DOHC sounds pretty sick
Re: Project: Slideways z26
Heres some stuff that i'm dealing with. Clutch stacking height and flywheel diameter nightmares
heres some measurements I took on flywheels.

Left is a fwd beretta/cavalier v6 flywheel, and a spec stage 3 clutch. On the right is a 88 camaro 3.1 flywheel with stock replacement LuK clutch.
From crankshaft to clutch fingers is 1.250~ inches deeper on the camaro.
SO, make a spacer for the fork? Sounds pretty easy.... but theres 2 issues. With a spacer that deep, the bearing wont ride on the input shaft tube anymore and will be on the splines. Secondly, the clutch disk will be 3/4 on the splines, and 1/4 on the pilot bearing area. The pilot bearing stub goes into the crank about 3/8"
Heres my plan:
Machine bellhousing face to motor 1/4", and bellhousing face to trans another 1/4". That buys me a half inch, and gets the disk fully on the splines. Likely I will have to cut a little off the input shaft stub. Then a 3/4" spacer for the fork to get the bearing out to where it needs to be. If its not fully on the tube when clutch is open, then ill extend that tube.
I am using toyota supra huydraulics so that will all be custom anyway.
OR
Move starter outwards/downwards to fit camaro flywheel and leave tranny alone.

Re: Project: Slideways z26
That must be the heaviest flywheel ever produced for passenger car :O
Re: Project: Slideways z26
Thats what I thought too but its hollow on the back side so its not too much heavier than the FWD flywheel
Re: Project: Slideways z26

Pedals done, column mounted. Lumina wheel installed. Seat installed.
Re: Project: Slideways z26
You know there are some universal transmission tunnels on the market, for example: http://www.cachassisworks.com/c-200-tra ... -race.aspx
And many more you can see on hotrod part shops etc, would most likely be lighter

Re: Project: Slideways z26

Making custom starter adapter to use rwd fbody flywheel with fwd block and starter. Bell housing will need mods too

Our Bridgeport (and everything else in the metal shop area) is 10-20 years older than I am...

That Bridgeport is a 1973 with a newer variable speed head. It's whooped. The y axis has like 1/8" of play.
