Once again terminology used was not correct... I know your going to get pissed at me saying this, but seriously if you google or ask ANYWHERE for a knurled insert you will not get a externally threaded insert.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threaded_insert
Just google the definition of KNURL... sorry but the description doesn't change on the other side of the country, its a machining term.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knurl
Also you doing almost the exact same process as me, all you did was drill it out even further and put in a full jacket insert vs just the threads so I don't see how Helicoil's can be complicated vs your method. Also for some areas thats not possible and you only have the space to do a helicoil which takes up less realty.

OK, take a chill pill guys.
I have to admit, either way most likely would work fine. Personally I like the idea of having a full jacket threaded in (if there is room in the material) over a helicoil, but hey, do what you can work with!
Both of you are smart enough to know how to fix the problem, that much is obvious. And both answers were right.
Even I know I get the words wrong sometimes, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I am trying to say... lol
You guys say knurled, and I think of tool handles.... LMAO

There is a difference between miss speaking or stating what term you use means something else and not accepting the fact that it's an improper use of the term and then getting all hot and bothered about it when others disagree with you because you are referring to something the wrong way and wont accept that.DTMAce wrote:Even I know I get the words wrong sometimes, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I am trying to say... lol

And yes you think of tool handles because thats what a knurl is, that's the point.
And as stated, yes both ways work I'm not arguing the methods, just the terms used, but for certain applications you dont have the space to put in a full threaded insert... for example my M8 bolts for my headers would have been a M10 or M12 threaded hole I would have had to make... there is just no room for that so a heli-coil was the right answer.
Sorry but the biggest thing that bugs me on these forums is improper information and when people look at this and go to look it up they wont end up with what SGR calls a Knurled insert.

You (and Cliff) nailed it. I was trying to figure out where SGR was going with that. They used to teach what a knurl is in metal shop back when High Schools had metal shop. And the Helicoil can save a lot of time and work well.

I didn't get "all hot and bothered". I specifically posted NOTHING. So ,anyhow.
Yes, I call that a knurl. And yes, Professor Jon was correct in what "Google calls a knurl". I don't give a crap one way or the other. Enough already.

Sure...... I saw what it was before you edited it to nothing.... LOL

ANYway.
AS long as he gets his threads fixed, it won't matter. He can make the choice as to what will work best for his particular situation.

If he has room in the material, he can do what SGR suggested, otherwise helicoil them. Simple.

I had posted a response, but I did edit it to nothing after like two minutes to let it go at that. Why don't you do the same instead of dragging this out unnecessarily. Thanks.DTMAce wrote:SuzukiGhostRider wrote:I didn't get "all hot and bothered". I specifically posted NOTHING.
