Re: '89 Beretta GT/U Restoration
The regs on the AV plates in IL just suck though.
Antique Vehicle License Plates are issued for a five year registration period expiring Dec. 31, 2014. To qualify for Antique Plates, motor vehicles, including motorcycles, must be more than 25 years old. Firefighting vehicles must be at least 20 years old.
Vehicles displaying these plates may only be driven to and from an antique auto show or exhibition, service station or demonstration. The mechanical and physical condition of the vehicle, including brakes, lights, glass and appearance, must be the same or as safe as originally equipped. An antique vehicle may be a "bona fide replica" - an exact copy of the original in design, frame and mechanical operation. "Facsimiles" - close, but not exact, reproductions of the original - do not qualify for Antique Vehicle plates.
Historical License Plates, representing the model year, may be displayed on an antique vehicle, provided the owner has valid, current Antique Vehicle Plates. Plates and registration must be kept in the vehicle at all times.

Ya. They suck here in California too. In order to get collector plates here, the car must be 25 years old or older and HAS to be on the antique list. ( I bet a Beretta doesn't qualify under that huh? lol)

I think we have the same age requirement, but I don't think we have to meet a specific list.

In Wisconsin, once a car is still drivable and gets to the ripe age of 20, they figure might as well let them have it. We use more salt then other states, so our cars don't last as long!

Might want to look into that... Our state uses a liquid salt solution now. Hence why my car will never see winter roads again.Travelor wrote:We use more salt then other states, so our cars don't last as long!

Here to get antique plates, the car has to be 30 year old and 100% stock condition or restored with original parts to condition what it rolled from the factory... swapping in after market radio is all you need to fail. All modifications banned.
And then you have limited driving days to 30 for year.

Re: '89 Beretta GT/U Restoration
I'm getting ready to get into school for auto mechanics(yes im going to risk it) once I get set up in a shop I'm going to get everything ready and prepped for the 3400 swap as of right now I've got about 7500 to miles on my 2.8 that I rebuilt so im going to go after the suspencion next get poly everything that I can maybe you all will get to see it about half done body wise at the 2011 Bfest. Also I'm loading up pics of my 88 should be posted here soon!lmnjlo wrote:Thanks!!! Ya...I had to get collector plates. I think I am the first one in the group to have them. People need to start respecting how old our cars are and how most of ours are in GREAT shape!Vampcrist wrote:Car looks great! What did you do to the motor itself? Any cam or anything? I have an 88GT that I plan on starting to do the same thing once I'm out of school(college that is). I had to rebuild it two years ago so its on its second motor with only about 7500 miles on it about 160k on the frame. But I put a comp cam in it with out chipping it so far runs good but I know my fuel ratio is way out of wack. Keep it up glad someone desided to get collector plates most people look at us like we drive old junk... well other then people like you with nice new paint!!!
Due to the time restraints of getting all the work done before Bfest 2010 in Chicago, I didn't have much time. I wanted to do a lot of things to the engine, like a new cam, pistons, rockers and all that good stuff. For right now, I have the upper and lower intakes honed. Since I have the 2001 Impala 3400, I also have the bigger injectors. I have a cool air intake from Tranzgenic, (when Aaron was still around making them) and a new Spec stage 2+ clutch. With that being said, I have all new hoses, clamps, all the sensors, coil packs, water pump, power steering pump....basically everything that is supposed to be on the engine is brand new. Oh, I also removed the EGR and put on an EGR delete kit thingy from Wot-tech (Great people, company, and service).
In a few years, when this engine is worn in and tired, I plan to pull it all out and do what I want to it. Until then, just the basics.

Re: '89 Beretta GT/U Restoration
Here is a small shot of the drivers seat. I need to get the pictures off of my camera and post them on here. Whats next for the car? Well....the next thing is the headliner....and new exhaust. I also need to do a little cleaning in the engine bay and re-route some wires.
