Why I can't get the car in today....

Image

Just got done ordering special head lights, the ones installed are temporary. Going to a unit that uses an H4 bulb, rather than sealed beam units. Also has a halo LED. Pics when they are in. Ordered front markers and side markers in full clear. And put in an order for all the external LEDs, both front and rear. Still have to make a 3rd brake to go in the top of the bed cap, but that won't be a big deal.

Still have to order the new tail light housings. Found some that look pretty bad ass, then a set of fog lamps. Already have a spot for them, they go under the bumper, there are two stock openings in that lower bumper bezel that normally hooks come out through, but we are mounting fogs instead.

Thanks.

Updates, apparently the bed got a lot of work done to it while I was gone this week. I mean a lot of work:

Yep, its all painted, both with paint on the outer, undercoat and bed liner on the rest. It should hold up for a while. And since it gets a bed cap, that will also help it too. I really like the tail gate.

You can now see the front lights all installed, etc. I have to mod the housings for the LED bulbs, they won't fit in the sockets, even though they are the correct bulb. The way they were made doesn't allow them to easily plug in. Dad already broke one trying, though its fixable, just broke a couple of solder joints.

The bulbs in question are the 1157s, two yellow and two red. They are tower types, so they radiate approx 360. Problem is they have a bottom circuit panel that is bigger around then the base of the bulb, so it prevents you from getting it down into the socket. Just going to have to work on them, that's all. At least they are way bright, and will work great, once installed.

Yep, LED lighting is installed! Looks damn good too. The blue lights in the headlights are interesting. Now get this:

These headlights have the following:

White Halo's (not on in the pics, they will be on only while the key is in the run position, like DRLs)
Blue incandescent bulb with a 194 base. Those are currently on with the park lights, as you see in the pics. Definitely different. Will eventually swap those to LED too. They came that way with the light.
A standard H3 with 55/60W bulb for the main light. May bump this later to a 55/90W With the projectors, it should be plenty bright, and these lights are HID ready too, should we want to do that... LOL.

All of the other bulbs in the exterior lights are LED based. I went with high power styles to maximize light output. You will see these, even on a bright day. Backup lights are blinding, too bad we have to fix the wiring. Somehow he got it hooked up to the clutch, so any time you push the clutch in, the backup lights come on... LOL But its an easy fix, just has to swap it with the safety so the engine won't start while the clutch is out.

I think the rear lights work well. Have to get it a bath and outside in the day and see how it looks.

Few more pics from today, installed the plastic bed liner (overtop the painted-on bed liner coating) Also cleaned the chrome bumper, and added some pin striping.

All that's left are some small things to fix. And the bed cap to paint, we pull that into the shop tomorrow. I picked up a used Interstate battery at a scrap yard for 20 bucks. Instead of 100-125 for a brand new one. Not a bad deal.

I think we will be giving it a bath and pulling it outside for pics tomorrow, if the weather is decent enough. Have to get some good pics for the insurance company and stuff.

Thanks! Here are some of the outside pics. Also took a shot of dad during his painting of the interior of the bed cap. As of this post its already done and painted black. All that's left is to clean the windows and finish the rear door, then it can be bolted on. We figure this cap is about as old as the truck, but its in good shape.

Anyway, here are the pics:

Lets see:

Install the bed cap. Probably tomorrow.
Wheels to repaint and dress up.
Radio to install.
One LED bulb for a front marker light to install as we broke one putting them in.
Few other things, lower dash panel, etc, to finish with.
Get plates and insurance.
Have the alignment done.

Then it should be ready to rock.

I have also uploaded a video to facebook of a night shot of the truck running, lights on, etc. The halo's look pretty good on it actually.

SEM dye, for what?

Stock tails were considered, problem was all the ones we had here were fugly dull and nasty looking, replacements were pretty pricey on the average, these were about 80 shipped for the pair. We may paint the outer lip around the light black, which may darken it more, but we want to wait till we get the bed cap installed. That may change the look too.

Wow! That's a lot of work. This is my first look at this thread, I just read the whole thing. You guys are nuts. haha A 5spd swap is always good though.

The black/red looks tits. I would enjoy it more with a full blackout, but it looks good. What are the plans for the interior? I hate the red interior in my truck, but that blue with the black/red combo just looks weird. I decided just to tint the windows on my truck so you can't really see the interior from the outside...works for me. In your case though you could SEM that stuff black pretty easily. The only thing you might want to replace rather than dye would be the seat.

To answer both, no it will remain blue. The red was simply to match the bowtie up front. LOL

The pin striping may or may not stay.

But the interior is blue because most of the good parts we had were blue. He touched up some with blue paint to make them even at least, but its going to stay those colors. It is after all going to be used as a daily.

Thanks for looking, a lot of work went into this truck, more than I think he planned, but I was trying to push that way, I wanted to see it redone well, so it will last him a while.
