Re: My 1988 Base Beretta
I hope your car is not 3900lbs... if so take the fat ass out of the back seat.
My car is 3140 with ME in it, and that was last years weight with all my brake upgrades and my rims and such.
You also need to clarify something a bit better... OD is not the same thing as the TCC lockup... so which is it not staying in? 4th gear (aka OD) or TCC lockup?
The 3 speeds had TCC lock as well and did not list OD on the shifter... It wasn't until GM added the 4th gear to the 4t60e that OD was added to the shifter so it has nothing to do with TCC Lockup. OD simpily means a gear that is a higher ratio than 1:1 and 4th is 0.705:1.
TCC solenoids are not as prone to going bad as on the 3t40 since they are the same solenoid as used to shift the trans... You probably have another issue elsewhere such as a worn valve body or sideloading TCC valve... Those problems are more common.

I was going by the sticker on the inside of the drivers door, is that not the total weight on there ? GWR or something... says 39XX LBS 3997 or something like that... my 88 says 36XX..3X00-Modified wrote:I hope your car is not 3900lbs... if so take the fat ass out of the back seat.

I will check on the comp nine vin code site and see what it says the weight is..
Re: My 1988 Base Beretta

Read up The door sticker does not list your curb weight.beretta wrote:I was going by the sticker on the inside of the drivers door, is that not the total weight on there ? The label inside the door is the limits you can put on the axles.
The other weights of a vehicle are:
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) The value specified by the manufacturer as the loaded weight of the vehicle. The max your car can weigh with passengers, the load you are carrying and all the fluids.
Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle PLUS the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle or trailer being pulled. This is the total weight of the vehicle, passengers, load, fluids, PLUS the total weight of the trailer you are pulling.
Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) The value specifed by the manufacturer as the loaded weight on the axles.
Gross weight (GW) The total weight of the vehicle fuly loaded. The (GW) should never exceed the (GVWR).
I'll use an example of a vehicle and the ratings are on a 2003 F-250 pick up
The truck as it drives down the road with nothing in it weighs 6,860 lbs. and has a (GVWR) of 8,800 lbs so you could add 1,940 lbs. to the truck. This truck has a (GCWR) of 20,000 lbs. so it could pull a trailer that had a total weight of 13,140 lbs.
Re: My 1988 Base Beretta
So.. one day i want to do a engine swap on the 96 Z. maybe this summer...
I know where there is or was a grand prix with the 3.4 L dohc engine... how good were those engines ? and would i be better off just doing a straight 3400 swap. seems to be alot more support on the 3400 then the 3.4 DOHC.
Now some of the malibu's had a 3.4 L but was that dohc version or no ? my friend had a malibu, and i think.. "THINK" it had a 3.4 L but i dont think it was dohc...

You know after i posted that i was thinking that it was something to do with how much the car can carry.. ..3X00-Modified wrote:Read up The door sticker does not list your curb weight.beretta wrote:I was going by the sticker on the inside of the drivers door, is that not the total weight on there ? There is a scrap yard in town where i work and they are pretty decent guys in there, im going to stop maybe tomorrow and weigh my 88.. with my subs as the way i drive it everyday with me in it.. i am only 140 lbs soaking wet LOL.
And friday maybe ill drive the Z to work and weigh it, i picked up my front pads and rotors for it today so i can go to my shop after work and throw those one the same day.
Then i will know the exact weight with the stuff i have added and taken out and whatever. im sure the Z is a heavier car though, but also i think its slower taking off because of the gearing in the 4speed auto.
I would 5 speed swap it but.. my gf really likes it and she loves driving it and she wont drive my 88 manual and i would like her to drive the retta so ill leave the Z auto. at least until she decides she doesnt want to drive it anymore LOL. was thinking of getting her to sell her 99 lumina too but i think she should keep it to drive in the winter and ill be parking both berettas indoors for the winter.

Re: My 1988 Base Beretta
Im sure i posted somewhere that my 88 recently has had a slight miss fire and just didnt seem to be running right. well tonight after work i pulled it in the shop and yanked the top of the engine apart and OHM'ed my injectors. All were 13 ohms dead on except one was 6 i tested it about half a dozen times and run across all of them to be sure before pulling the rail. Ohm'ed a spare i have @ 13 ohms and put that one in there. runs great now.
Re: My 1988 Base Beretta
