EGR milkshake

Had an EGR fault code. The passage on this car frequently gets clogged with carbon and I occasionally clean it. This last time, there was the dreaded coolant/oil milkshake mixture in the EGR, the area in the intake under the EGR and the exhaust passage. There is no loss of oil or coolant. No "milkshake" on the inside of the oil filler cap nor on the dipstick. Drove it almost 200 miles this past weekend with no overheating issues.
I replaced the intake manifold gasket about 2 years ago. (4th time). Oil changed every 3 months (which equals about 1,000-1,500 miles).
Any ideas?
