EGR milkshake
1994 Beretta 3100V6 4sp auto 177,xxx
Had an EGR fault code. The passage on this car frequently gets clogged with carbon and I occasionally clean it. This last time, there was the dreaded coolant/oil milkshake mixture in the EGR, the area in the intake under the EGR and the exhaust passage. There is no loss of oil or coolant. No "milkshake" on the inside of the oil filler cap nor on the dipstick. Drove it almost 200 miles this past weekend with no overheating issues.
I replaced the intake manifold gasket about 2 years ago. (4th time). Oil changed every 3 months (which equals about 1,000-1,500 miles).
Any ideas?

Re: EGR milkshake
Can't tell. Either water or coolant. All I know is it's mixed like a milkshake. Not really sure how coolant would get ton that part though.

Re: EGR milkshake
its probably just condensation.
if you keep having egr clogging issues, have you tried seafoaming your engine or running seafoam or something in the gas? i'd hate to see what your valves look like. I've been using that berryman b-12 chemtool cause its less than half the price of seafoam.

Re: EGR milkshake
Been there, done that. Clogged EGR passage and condensation.

Re: EGR milkshake
I knew someone from bstuff had this issue before, and that it wasn't the typical LIMG problem... So there you go.DTMAce wrote:Been there, done that. Clogged EGR passage and condensation.
Best solution: Block-off the offending EGR valve and ignore the SES light. Keep the crud from entering your engine -EGRs are a good short-term solution for engine emissions, for long-term, they do more harm than good because of the deposits they cause inside the engine, and the decreased efficiency that causes. If you have to go through emissions, just reinstall the EGR for the test -at least it will be clean from lack of use...
If you are blowing LIMGs that much though, either your heads or your LIM might be warped. Nest time, at least use the better gaskets with the steel frame and the rubber seals, instead of the plastic-and-silicone junk. Both Fel-Pro and Dorman make the better gaskets, and Rock Auto sells the Dorman set for also the same price as the plastic crap.
Good luck.
