Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
Re: Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
Reflecting on a decade with the Camaro, thoughts swirl around the idea of a fresh paint job. Nostalgia meets the desire for rejuvenation, envisioning a sleek and vibrant transformation. Contemplation bridges the gap between cherished memories and the prospect of a renewed, timeless aesthetic for the beloved car. gb whatsapp pro

Lol. Camaro is bot bait I guess. I did get some work done on it this month so I'll update this soon.

Re: Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
I fabricated a way to put 13.4" Corvette Z06 rotors with regular C6 calipers on the Camaro axle using Blazer backing plates. I also made it easily changeable so I can go back to 11.6" Blazer brakes when I need to run my 15" drag wheels...without needing to pull the axles and swap backing plates. I ended up spending about $300 to get better functionality than the Kore3 kit that's $1600. I'll call that a win.

Re: Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
Another year, another update! Lol. Of course I ended up neglecting it most of last year again...but I've been hitting it hard the last month and it feels good to be making actual progress. I've lined up a painter so I've gotta finish fab on the splitter project (that I've had in my head for 10 years) before I send it off. After I turn my cardboard rear mockup into a finished plywood assembly and modify the pass rear wheel flare to match I can send it out.

I'm at 21 years owning the car now, and 13 since I've driven it! How did I turn into one of those guys?

Re: Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
I had to come up with my own hitch cause I found nothing available new for 78-81 and I've modified the rear bumper quite a bit anyway. So I used my time-tested process of making & refining a plastic mockup and then having my buddy at Empire Metal Works laser and bend it in steel. It came out really nice. It's pretty simple and that's what I like. Easy on/off, and the bumper bracket part of it will be a mount for my rear diffuser too. As a side benefit, it should help protect the battery kill switch.

Re: Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
I always felt like I was taking crap for putting tow-hitch receivers on my Camaros, but I like functionality and versatility in my cars. Even the Third-Gens don't have much available for them, I was lucky enough to find a cheap N.O.S. U-Haul piece for the '89 RS back when I was moving it across country. I think three of them are equipped with receivers? I don't recall!
Two of the Berettas have receivers too, one Curt and one home-made (which tucks under and hides better). One of our Toyotas has a Curt too -terrible design that wraps UNDER the OEM muffler on one side, but it does work and is strong -terrible fun to leave a long hitch sticking out and back it up to a sidewalk, just saying...

Re: Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years
Found some wheels I really loved at a reasonable price. Rotary forged Kansei KNP 5-spokes in 18x9 and 18x10.5. I pulled the trigger to beat the tariffs, but they don't fit!

I went over all the specs online before buying and it all checked out. The 5x120 offerings would work great for rear, but not the front. So I redrilled the front hubs to 5x114.3 in order to get perfect placement. However...the center cap hole is much smaller than the published center bore and didn't clear the hub snout. I've got enough work into this car that I'm not going to settle for a goofy looking machined wheel center with a dust cap sticking out. So my time redrilling the hub was wasted and I had to eat the shipping both ways to return them, but at least they waived the restocking.
