Does anyone know what i should to reseal the firewall? I need to fill in the cracked body seam that causes the infamous leak.

Also, what do i use to reseal the firewall connectors to seal those back up?

Well, most auto places actually have body seam sealant in putty form, either in a tube or a tub, but you have to remove the old, clean the area well, especially if its rusted, primer, seal, then once that cures paint over the area.

That would be the correct way to fix it.

Do not use silicone or any silicone based products. Some people have used various types of roofing sealant as well (tar based), but still you have to clean the area and such.

Window Weld from 3m seems to work well. It's very messy though, wear rubber gloves if you plan on smothing it out with your fingers.

You cant paint window weld though can you?

i used, urethane windshield sealant, its used for installing windshields, it drys fairly quick, stays flexible and bonds to anything. i use it on everything also makes a good adhesive.

Under the cover where the wipers are at each end there is drain holes and the water runs down the firewall from there. i had a small leak on the driver side i think it was running in around the steering column. but without removing stuff from the firewall i just sealed up what i could reach to and all along the seam under the wiper cover and i pulled out the heater blower and sealed all around that too. and no more leaks.

I guess the stuff i use would be the same as the 3M stuff. i get mine from the auto parts store here and its called P24 something urethane

Um, I could only assume if you rough up the outside of the window weld and clean it well it should take paint just like any other urethane.

And Beretta, yeah it looks very similar to window weld.

If you lick your finger first it wont stick to you just keep you finger very wet all the time, sounds weird LOL but if you dont want it to stick then it works

I used seam sealer in that area(shown in pics). And you can paint it. It was from Eastwood.

seam sealer would work ok as well, i think urethane would bond better though since its purpose is to hold and seal your windshield in, have you ever tryed to cut out a windshield its a real bugger LOL. seam sealer might dry out over time and crack i dont know though. either would work.

Cool, i think i will just use the 3M window weld. I have used it on multiple occasions with great results, even filled a bunch of motor mounts with it.

Can i use the same stuff on the firewall electrical connectors or should i use something else?

i would use it on the harness connectors too wont hurt it, and i was also thinking about filling my engine mounts with the same thing, i have a brand new front mount i bought but havent put it in yet i want to fill it first.

I used 3M Heavy Drip-Chek with brushable seam sealer over it once the drip-chek cured. Painting over it was not a problem.

woody where did you get that stuff?

Napa had them both.
