Besides a new engine is there anything I can do for a cracked engine block?

What do you think?
You pretty much need a block, so may as well replace the engine.

There are some places that fix those kinds of issues, but not many. In the long run, it's better to replace it, even with a used engine.

heating the cast iron up and nickel weld. Requires a welding specialist and is only done to high dollar or rare blocks.
your junking the car or replacing the engine with a reman or used ending.

It's a 1988 beretta 2.8 engine I'm in upstate N.Y. anyone know of a good place to get another engine?

Look for 3.1's which will give you many more years.
