Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
I actually didn't replace the CTS. It tested fine, so it seems to be feeding good information to the computer.
Knock sensor sounds plausible. If I get a chance I'll disconnect it and see what happens.

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
I've tried that a few times, even leaving it over night. It still runs poorly next time. The thing that boggles me is that it starts out with no power, wanting to stall, etc. Once it warms up it runs okay (not great) but there's a sudden transition between the two states. I can actually hear it pep ...

FS: '93, 2.2l, Automatic. $400, Wisconsin
Location: Soldiers Grove, WI 54655 VIN: 1g1Lv1348py257804 Pick-up only. I'm throwing in the towel on my beretta. I'd love for it to go to someone on beretta.net who would appreciate it. If no one wants it, I'm going to drive it to the junkyard before my registration expires mid-december, so I need t...

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
No, since it tested fine on the appropriate pins I left it alone.

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
Thanks, I think the EGR is okay. I don't know about the knock sensor. With the new fuel pump the car is functional. I'm done working on it, so this thread might be done too. We actually bought a Prius for commuting, so the Beretta will only be driven occasionally. Might be time to sell it, actually....

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
Sounds like the other pins feed to gauge then :) There are temp sensors with 4 pins available for other cars, but pinout and resistances could be different. The 2 pin replacement looked like it would fit.. You could install that connected to the PCM as a temporary measure. Before I tested mine, I wa...

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
Glad to hear I'm not the only one with that sensor! As I said a few posts back, I was able to test mine on the car by checking the resistance between the pins that connect to the PCM. I checked it cold and hot, and the numbers were fairly close to the Chilton's chart. You could do the same, unless y...

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
When it rains (like this morning) water drips all over the electronics around the computer. I'm no expert, but I doubt water is good for it. There is a good ground connection though. I'm tempted to try an eBay/junkyard PCM. Or I could just throw in the towel and take it to a shop. I'm getting tired ...

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
Plugs and wires are good. At the store they pulled (you guessed it) 8 codes. Not just any 8 codes, but the exact same codes that it had the past two visits. 42 EST (spark timing) circuit 33 MAP high voltage, low vac 32 EGR 24 VSS (vehicle speed sensor) 23 IATS high temp 21 TPS voltage high 14 coolan...

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
I pulled off the throttle body and all attached sensors. Everything inside the TB was coated in a nasty black goo. It was nearly plugging some of the sensor holes, and the butterfly was sticking a bit when closed. I assume that is carbon buildup from exhaust being recirculated by the EGR? The IAC va...

Re: Chronic Stalling Problem 93 Beretta
I've made progress with the engine coolant temp sensor. The wires from the PCM are yellow and purple, and they connect to the top and bottom pins of that 4-pin sensor on the right side of the engine. I pulled the plug and checked the resistance between those two pins. With a hot engine (15 minutes a...
