Considering a 94 Base
Considering a 94 Base
I'm considering buying a clean looking 88k mile, V6 auto, 94 base.
I think I remember 94s have an OBD 1.5 ECM.
Does that present any problems?
I think it doesn't have cruise and I was hoping to be able to plug in a cruise from a junkyard car.
Anybody ever do that and have any tips to offer?
Thanks

If tuning is your concern please read...

Cruise I'm not sure on, but it's worth a try... I can only assume 90% of what you need will be there already on the stock harness and you just need the extra stuff that is separate from the full interior harness.

jski: cruise is not a plug in addition. You should know this. You KNOW where all the screws belong.

Re: Considering a 94 Base
I've read it's a bit tricky to read codes.
I've read you short pins 5 & 6 and it will flash the light like OBD1. I have the OBD2 reader and I've read that won't work.
I'm not concerned with tuning. I just wanted to know if the OBD1.5 is problematic for a daily driver use.
I know when there is a hole with threads and nothing in it, a screw usually belongs in there.
Some screws can work loose and fall out, some are taken out and never put back in because of laziness or stupidity or both.
I know John Dillinger was a criminal and not someone to be idolized.
I have no idea of what a Cack is, nor do I care.
But thanks for the heads up that cruise in not a plug in, now I know that too.

You have to read codes with an OBDI scan tool.jskiguy wrote:I've read it's a bit tricky to read codes.

No the OBDI.5 will not flash the SES light like a standard OBDI would
Why would there be daily driving use problems? If you make an ALDL cable, and get a DTC code program from someone on 60degreev6.com you should be able to pull codes. I have an old OBDI scan tool I got on ebay years ago that I can hook up read data and DTC codes. If you do not wish to do the above then you probably have to visit a GM dealership to have them pull any codes that you may get. All autoparts stores that I know of have only invested into OBDII diagnostic tools so they can not help Pre 96 vehicles with an SES light.
Re: Considering a 94 Base
Thanks for the info.
I wondered about drive-ability because my 96 benefited from a re-flash of the ECM. Not big problems, just hesitation etc.
I assume it was because of today's reformulated fuel. So I wondered if people had any problems with stock OBD1.5 cars.
I saw an auction for an ALDL cable on Ebay and they have a link to free tuning software.
I will explore this more. I'm thinking I could use this on an 85 turbo regal to richen it up just a bit?
As long as I can at least get codes if I have a problem on the 94 if I buy it.

Re: Considering a 94 Base
Remember the 94-95 tuning is specific software, you need to read the thread I posted about that if you want to do a reflash... something on ebay will not do it... granted the ALDL cable will probably work but the tuning software may not.

I think your full of it. Maybe you won't smash this one with your horrible driving skills.
BTW, My 1986 Fiero SE came with 215 60x14 tires something you should have known.

I may not know everything but I suspect you know even less.
I have probably forgotten more than you will ever know.
I did have an accident which was not my fault but I never totaled a car like the one in your picture. Is that your doing?
When I'm not cranky, I'm working on and playing with my other cars.

My other cars are why I don't try and make my Beretta go fast.
I bet you envy me, my good fortune and talents and that is why you make feeble attempts to piss me off.
Your problem is you want to steal and cheat to get ahead and I just work hard and that takes more effort.
You don't want or can't work hard and that is why you dislike people who do.
It really bugs you because instead of letting 6 year plus, old crap go and moving on with your life you keep stirring it up.
Didn't you have cancer? I think I recall people not getting stuff you sold them because of something like that.
Maybe you holding on to perceived wrongs eats away at you.

I think you need to figure out who I am before you make accusations. NO, I am NOT the person you write of. The Beretta in my sig is a random photo. You are the one digging deep and your a cranky old man. My shop and warehouse is in Glenview. I may very well be the only person on this forum that put factory cruise control in their car without help from this forum.
Are you still out of work? I could hire you to fix my mistakes.
