That '89 in Longmont (Denver) is tempting just for a parts car. Sounds pretty firm on the $1,100 though. May have to go check it out. Dash looks nice.

I've been searching CL (via numerous different search sites) and have seen these before, but not much else. It's been near impossible to find a decent 92-93 GTZ.

I talked with the owner of this car:

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/3451172259.html

A few weekends ago, I drove 400 miles (round trip) with cash in hand and trailer in tow only to find out that the car was trashed. Every single part on the exterior was ruined - New engine or not, the car needs so much work it'd cost $6000+ just in paint/parts to get the thing looking right. Beyond that, the dash was destroyed and the underside of the car was caked with weeds and mud from a field. It was a big let down. I took the gamble because the seller lives in BFE and has no access to a camera or the internet to send pictures.

Unfortunately for this car, the seller is totally unrealistic in his price. He is totally firm at $2500 and the car is MAYBE worth $1000 (and that'd be on a good day).

Maybe someone else can talk some sense into him, but I washed my hands of this particular nightmare GTZ.

crap, if it was closer I'd buy that 94 Z for $950. Turn right around and sell the hood!

*edit - I meant the Tulsa z26!

Haha I talked to that guy... He's just about blind isn't he? I kept telling him to get someone over to take pictures to show me before I rode up there... He didn't seem to understand that someone wants to see something before they drive a long ways to get it...

I had a feeling it would be junk, he kept going on about how it had nice chrome wheels and that it was in great shape, new motor (which I had my doubts about....) blah blah blah... Sad really, did you get any pics of it?

Yeah - I took the no-pictures gamble and lost. I felt bad for the guy because it sounded like he could use the money, but $2500 is an absolute joke for that car. I didn't take any pics, although I wish I would have, because it was just such a total turd. If you do some homework on this car, you'll see that he's had the car for sale since April 2012 and the ad never changes and never has pics. Clearly he can't sell it at that price and refuses to go any lower because he's got "$3000 into the engine rebuild", which I doubt.

Let me give a mental illustration -

Exterior:
Broken filler panel (hole in it around key area) - Who knows if the lock is damaged
Dew Strips - Totally cracked and broken
Window surrounds - most of them were so sunbaked that the metal underneath was clearly visible
Front bumper and header panel alignment were out of whack
Missing rear spoiler (although listed in the ad) - holes filled with spray painted body plugs
The car is 15 different shades of red - Mostly red oxide primer colored
Red primer overspray on headlights
DS door has nice crease/dent in it where it meets fender
Wheels were the GTZ wheels spray painted silver
Tires were totally done - not drivable in my opinion
Underside was completely covered in weeds/grass/mud - definitely sitting in a field
PS mirror glass is missing
Both mirrors were black/base mirrors that were sprayed with red primer

Interior:
Dash is totally warped and discolored
Interior had been used to store things (ie, black stains, grass, etc)
Steering wheel leather falling off

That's just what I could see - It was pouring rain when I showed up and as bad as the thing looked on the outside, there was NO WAY in hell I was going to pay anything close to $2500 for this dog. I was so aggravated that I just jumped in the truck and turned around, I never even got the keys or opened the doors. Even if the motor was a W41 rebuild done professionally, the car simply isn't worth it. Maybe at $1000 it might be worth it, but even then, it is still going to need a LOT of TLC and honestly, there are better GTZ candidates out there. I think there's a reason this guy (in this day and age of technology and ease of pic-taking) refuses to get pictures online - He wants to get someone to drive out there blindly and get suckered into paying his asking price in a high pressure situation. Welp, that wasn't going to be me....
