Re: Need help.....
Sounds good, I thought you were just giving up. Didn't you wet sand that paint? Last I saw it looked good.
ACE just swap the black cars engine into the Z and call it good.

Re: Need help.....
Money,
I did wet sand it....over 4 years ago! The car is showing sign of the poor GM paint job...it's chipping and peeling bad on the roof and trunk. So, I'm going to take her all apart and paint one part at a time at work, and then take the car to work and paint the Q-panels and roof. I have a couple custom things I'm going to do to her....hope to have it done by the end of 2013! Oh, if I can get it to run LOL!LOL!

Oh wow, four years ago? You need to be on here more often. Yes I too love that great GM paint. Sure hope that you get it running again soon and get to work on the other things. I'd sure like to see the work.

Re: Need help.....
Except for one tiny problem. The engine in the black car is blown. LOL Though it could go the other way, but not worth the work to do it. *sighMoney pit Beretta wrote:Sounds good, I thought you were just giving up. Didn't you wet sand that paint? Last I saw it looked good.

If I had the money and time, I would OBDII swap the harness and drop in a 3400/rebuild the tranny, etc. But I don't have the funds, time or place for that, let alone the inclination to do all that. But anyway.

Re: Need help.....
Money,
Thanks... Yeah, the GS is a "RARE ONE" Buick only made 13,861 GS in 1966...to Chey and Pontiac's 80,000+ SS Chevelle and GTO's and to top it off it's only 1 of 56 cars that came with the Factory/Dealer installed 2x4 setups! It's 1 of 4 still left on the road to be known!

Re: Need help.....
Man that is somthing else. Strange...I was thinking it would be smaller. Very clean and I would have a fear of driving it.
What is up with that air cleaner? It looks like it's for a single four barrel.

Money,
The Skylark GS was on the same body as the Chevelle and GTO in 1966...not like the smaller 80 and 90's car they did the GS in. The air cleaner....yes odd set up. Well, when I got the car way back when I picked it up as a beater car! ... for the street/strip 65 GTO and 66 442 I had was killing me to drive every day. The day I got it I open the hood and said to my self... Hmm, big block 4bbl car ...and closed the hood. The car SUCKED on gas and after 6 months on one hot summer day I found out why! The car was falling on it face and I could smell gas...I knew it was a stuck carb float. So, I pulled over , open the hood, took off the wing nut to the air cleaner lid and ...... WOW! 2x 4bbl carbs! The air cleaner was double nutted under the lid and a single stud in the center of the base held the lid on. The same set up was used on the Chey 409 2x4 motors and the Pontiac 2x4 motors in the 60's. After that, I found out how rare the car was and fixed it up!

Re: Need help.....
I have seen a few 409's in person and in photos and somehow not even one had that air cleaner. It's all new to me(lol). They had small air cleaners or 90 degree stacks on them(damn aftermarket).
I was thinking more in the lines of the 65 Malibu/Wildcat. That engine in that car would be a bit crazy to sell to the public, but hey the GS Stage 2/Chevelle SS were nuts. Not something you would want a new driver to learn on.
It's not that bad these days. The engines make their power in the top end and with torque abuse software a teen could drive a high powered car.

Re: Need help.....
Yeah , the air cleaners are rare in themselves. Most gear heads lost it and as you said put on after market air cleaner. Lucky for me the car was all there. It just needed some bad TLC and got it off the first owner...a little old lady! Well, they make a GS/Wildcat (only year 66 ) and GS/Riviera's. As far as being hard to sell to the public in the 60's....come on it was the a Muscle Car. But, it was a Buick and at that time people did not think of Buicks as Muscle Cars. But, when the SkyLark/GS open the doors in 66 with the GS's 325hp/445qt 340hp/445qt and the rare 360hp/465qt Buick was on the map. And I can tell you with the 360hp and the 465qt!.... this car is a beast!

Re: Need help.....
Oh wow what a find! That blows my mind, a one owner 66.
I use to dream of that kind of torque, but with a SBC. That car does sound like fun. Still makes me laugh at the tires that came on those cars stock. If you put the gas down you would not go anywhere. Talk about tire spin.
Hey did your GS get a beefed up suspension?

Re: Need help.....
Money,
The suspension was stock, they did not beef them up back then. But, when I reworked the car I upgrade the shocks, bigger front and rear swaybars, and boxed rear control arms to help it handle better.
