Let's talk about Hideous cars!
Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
The internet is a great place to get one's metaphorical nose bent out of joint over nothing -there is no way to convey sarcasm or any sense of body-language on a thread-discussion forum like this. By nature, I am a smart-alec, and I try to make sure I can take what I dish out, and keep a thick skin. I also try to operate on the assumption (often wrong) that people are NOT deliberately trying to be offensive, and I likewise try to be polite. But my humor does come through, and it is all too easy to be taken the wrong way.
It really did!

I really had to quote this line -it made me laugh, yeah the Taurus in the mid-'90s looked like a bean!Koots wrote:You are very correct and i'm glad you were able to spread more knowledge my way and thanks for not taking it the wrong way. As a Canadian, i've got an inherent fear of pissing everyone off, but still doing whatever the I want in private LOL I still end up stirring the pot a lot of forums, but will try to be the first one to try and bring it all back down to a sensible level later on.
when the Taurus first came out (I was only a toddler then), it was revolutionary in it's smooth shape, but then everything started to look like it and made most American cars look like beans

It's all cool dude
I have an affinity for some of these bean cars, but I think that's because I don't see them on the roads as much. It seems like everyone is willing to destroy their credit to drive something new, nowadays. I usually give a head-nod to anyone driving something older than a decade LOL
My 02' Silverado is the newest vehicle I've ever owned and probably will remain that way, until I buy an older TDI or diesel Cruze for my GF.

Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
Haha! My newest car is now 15 years old! (I did briefly have an '01 GP, and I had an '01 Kawasaki ZX-11D. We also have a pair of Toyotas in the family that are a couple of years younger, but they are not 'mine'.) My oldest car is 45 years old, and most people wouldn't even recognize a first-year AMC Javelin SST if they saw itKoots wrote:I usually give a head-nod to anyone driving something older than a decade LOL

The Gremlin is one of those cars that I would rock, but it would have it's drivetrain replaced with something else immediately. It's ugly as hell, but I kinda like it for that.

They could make for a cool project car, but I hate them otherwise:
Mustang II

In my opinion, this is when the Mustang was going in the right direction.Koots wrote:They could make for a cool project car, but I hate them otherwise:

Other than that, the newer ones to me are somewhat ugly.
Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
i'm more of a fan of the 69-73's and the boxy Fox bodies. Other than that, I don't really pay them much attention.
most of the people in my hometown, who buy Mustangs, are ladies or douchebags who try to race everyone. There are a few sensible owners, but they are few and far between LOL

Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
This is true in Ohio, except with Honda's and Mitsubishi's.Koots wrote:most of the people in my hometown, who buy Mustangs, are ladies or douchebags who try to race everyone.
I drive my 1990 Indy all over the place because its my worst car and its my project car. I keep getting dum kids wanting to race me with their hondas.
I usually respond with "okay, drag strip or circuit track this weekend, pick one." Then they say, "no, right now"
Then I laugh, and say "I only race real cars on the track", they usually get all mad and try to speed off.
One time I took off a bit fast after a left turn up to the speed limit on a highway, some Honda driver that was tailgating me like crazy a whole mile before sped past me blowing their horn like they won or something, A cop pulled out a minute later and pulled the honda over. He was so mad. haha

I still to this day do not understand why kids buy these cars like in the photo and think its a race car comparable to a Lamborghini or a Boughatti.
They are also ugly family cars in my opinion:
Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
I almost bought a mid-70's Mustang II -who else remembers the bad-@$$ Cobra version driven by Sebrina in Charlie's Angles? But it wasn't what I was expecting, and while the price was right, the owner was trying this 'I have another offer on it, but I'll sell it to you first if you buy it now' crap when I told her I would have to think about it. Overall, it was in nice shape, red interior and gunmetal paint, but it didn't look right to me, so I passed, and just kept riding my Honda 750 four-seasons (which really sucked, BTW). -I'm really glad I did, I ended up with my 'old' Camaro instead, some time later.
I like the '67/68 and '69 Mustangs the best, and the '71-'73s were mean looking in the fast-back configuration with the twin hood-scoop option they had so long as the rear-end was kept from sagging. Other than that, you can keep them. I think the first year or two of the 'retro' 'Stangs were really well done, but I have no interest in owning a Ford newer than about '73 -the consistency of quality is not there- except for maybe a first-gen Probe. I wanted one of those when they first came out, and it was a toss-up between the Probe and the Beretta so far as styling was concerned. I doubt I'll ever be talked into buying one of them though, especially considering how few are left in good shape now, and how few of those are the turbo GT with a 5-speed...
One of my brothers had a Gremlin X when they first came out -apparently it was a really quick car, I just don't think AMC could have made it fast enough to outrun the laughter...

They are fun to drive, but it's all in the sensation of it, not the actual real world performance.GHOSTOWLGRID wrote:

I spent a bunch of money on the suspension of my 97 Civic sedan and was incredibly impressed with it. I could embarrass a lot of cars because of how firmly planted the suspension was, not with brute HP and TQ.
I could still outrun it (in a drag race) with my 6500lb. truck though, while being able to fit comfortably within it's confines. Just doesn't handle as well, obviously LOL
Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
I posted an ugly car on this forum not that long ago, now that I think about it. lol
It was a 50 something Chrysler Imperial. http://www.beretta.net/forum/viewtopic. ... ial#p81980

Those are ugly LOL I like em though, but from afar

Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
It is hideous if you don't like it, this is all subjective, but any car that age in that condition is pretty cool to me. I'd drive it without the need of a paper-bag over my head. I don't think I would spend the money to buy it mind you, but I would rather have it than most of the new cars...

Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
I agree 100%. There's something about the Gremlin that makes me want one. With an upgraded drive train of course. I saw a guy on an AMC board, that put an LS1 or LS2, twin turbo setup in a Gremlin and painted it purple. He expected about 500hp out of it. Nothing would beat the look on on people's faces after getting smoked by a purple Gremlin.Koots wrote:The Gremlin is one of those cars that I would rock, but it would have it's drivetrain replaced with something else immediately. Re: Let's talk about Hideous cars!
I think that one of the most hideous cars was that Chevy camero/pick-up that was released back in 2005.
