I love the rear disc setups but there's something unsettling about the thin layer of material around the holes that need to be drilled...
Did you have to have them machined any or did you drill the holes yourself?

One of my co-workers machined them on the ancient mill in our shop. The brackets look flimsy, but lots of guys are running them without issue. I thought about welding in filler before machining, but didnt want to warp them.

The machine shop that did mine had no issues with how it was machined out, it's sandwiched between the bearing and the mounting plate with 4 bolts... There plenty safe, I put them through a serious torture test.
Also do not weld them. They are cast out of the crappiest stuff you can find and dont like being welded

Cast period doesn't like to be welded... Its definitely an art if it even accepts it.

It should work with nickel wire. That's how the cast center sections are welded to the steel tubes on drag-prepped rear ends. Takes a lot of heat though.
Picked up my banjo bolts last night but never got out to the garage. Showing Tiff's Sube tonight so I'm hitting the j/y tmo after work for the Cobalt mounts. Then I can get the new carpet fitted.

Got all of the welding done for the front seats and brackets mocked up for the rear. I deviated from my mockup a little bit because the way I had it only left 1 click for rear adjustment, so I moved it 2.5" rearward. Now there is plenty of adjustment both ways. I welded in 1x1 tube for the front mounts and built a platform for the inside back mount, the outside back mount still fell on the rocker area and I welded a 1/4" steel plate in to drill & tap. The inside back mounts are ugly, but you'll never see them under the carpet. I'll get some pics when the rear is done, too. Hoping to be finished this weekend.

Some of the metal has surface rust for some reason, so I will be refinishing the floor pans. This car had a pretty massive water leak when I got it, but it didnt look as bad the last time I had it apart. It looks like the rubberized coating it had on it might have made it worse. That or the black carpet from my water leak 95 did it. I thought I dried it out 100% before installation...but maybe it was still a little damp. Once the floor cleanup is done I can throw the carpet in.
The back seat is fully functional. I put one pull cable in the trunk and one in the interior so it should be convenient either way. I welded two plates in the trunk and at the rear seatback hooks. The seat bottom mounts are actually welded to the stock seatback tabs upside down. They are about 1" higher than stock because the mount on the Cobalt seat is hidden and not accessible like the Beretta one.
I also took out the shock bar and I'm going to fab my own for some more room. I can run it up and out of the way by the speakers with 45's at each end. I have some plate to fab the mounts out of and use the same rectangle tube as the front seat mounts for it. If anyone wants to buy my old shock brace let me know. I don't remember what I paid, but I got it from Aaron (406Z26) like 8 years ago...when I didn't have fold down seats. Looking for $20+s/h to cover the steel cost of the new one.

If u making anothee shock tower brace how much u want for the orange one. And the seats look great, the floor in that car never looked that bad even before i sprayed it.

The brown is the rubber coating smudging, but by the seats and stuff it is a little bit of surface rust. The carpet was soaked when I got it, that's why I used mine instead because it wasn't as bad. I'll get it fixed though before the new one goes in.

Got the last of the interior fab done tonight and the Cobalt belts are mounted. I'm happy - they should be plenty rugged. The floor and pillar mounts were just like stock, and the cartridge uses the stock bolt hole. I got a 2.5" heavy duty spacer from the hardware store. Gonna pick up a grade 8 bolt for it, too. The top part I welded in some steel ti keep the cartridge from pivoting on the single bolt hole. In a cobalt that tab just slides in a slot, but since it already had a bolt hole I used it. These belts click in to the Cobalt buckle that is built in to the seat. And they are soooo much smoother than the 91 style I had. Mine were getting worn out and starting to fray...mostly because of the adjustment bar on the male part. These slide with no tension. I might actually wear a seat belt now!

Thats dumb... It took me one hit to a windshield with my head and now I wear a belt no matter what and actually feel like I'm giong to fall out of my seat if it's not on. I hope you don't have to learn the same way.woody90gtz wrote:I might actually wear a seat belt now!
