out of the beretta game(for now) so........ what next??

Post by themadness »

if all goes as planned, the retta will be sold today. if another comes along in the next few years that is too good to pass on i will get it but until then.......what should i get to replace it?

i'm kinda stumped really. i want the extreme comfort of the beretta but with a little better mpg. i have been looking at monte's, grand prix, and cavs. cavaliers seem to be the closest to my budget which is around 1700-2000. i know thats not alot but i can figure that out as i go. the hard part will be to decide which way to go.

I can't understand why you sold it to get something "newer" and only have 1700-2k to spend... that really limits your choices. Sorry to be blunt but the math just isn't adding up to me, I feel the sale of the Beretta was a stupid move.

nah not a stupid move. that money is just a jump off not the limit(boss lady might give me a raise :D ). you can grab decent cars around here for that on craigslist, plus or minus, just not really able to decide which route to go...

Can't say I can understand your thinking.
The Beretta might be better than anything you have suggested as far as gas mileage is concerned.

I think he sold it for family needs, or did I miss something?

I agree on the gas mileage part though. Haven't found anything 10-15 years newer with better, even some new on the lot, despite their claims.

Buy a dodge/chrysler/plymouth mini-van. Can't go wrong at all family wise. I now have 2, and will soon acquire a 3rd. (will be 5 that I have bought since 2005). The other half has my best one the 03. (Of course :P )
First one cost me 500 (93) and I had to rebuild a tranny, but got 100k miles out of it, before fire dept got it and I scrapped it for over 300. Second one I bought (94) for 200 was for parts for the first, then it was given to the fire dept and scrapped for 300. Third one I bought for 700, (the 03) tuned it up, and have put nearly 100k kilometers on it. The one I am driving now (97) I bought for 300 to get me through the winter, haven't put any money in it yet, and will probably sell it for 300 in the spring once I finalize the one I'm picking up in about a month, costing me 250 (for a running 01). Just needs several little things, but overall its a good deal.

So deals can be had. Granted if you don't want to buy a fixer upper, then the price jumps accordingly. I'm just thankful to have some simple skills in fixing them.

She's got him wedged between a rock and a hard place saying get something newer but you only have 2k to do so... At least that's my opinion.

Get a third gen cav. There a dime a dozen, literally. I got a 01 z24 for 600 bucks and put like 200 into it. My brother drives it and its dead reliable, moves pretty good with the 2.4 dohc, and gets 28-32 mpg.

They use beretta brakes and hubs. And you can get them 4 door.

And last I checked, a local yard had over 90 of them, not including sunfires...
