Rough idea for cost on paint.

Well today as i was sitting in a parking lot screwing with my radio and eating some pizza some lady decided to back into me, so now on top of the damage from the mailbox i hit last year i have yet another eye sore. There are misc chips throughout the car and the paint is delaminating under the gas cap. So I would like to respray the whole car and fix all the minor imperfections and put some new clear on. Anyone know a rough cost on something like this. And does anyone know a shop in the CT area?

well it depends. If you want a quick respray, then maaco can do it for like 350 bucks but you get what you pay for. If you want it high quality, then you're looking at 1500 bucks+. That's assuming same color it's usually extra to change colors and without any labor included on fixing the metal. I say the best bet is that you do all of the prep-work yourself like sanding, masking, even priming and then take it to one of these shops to do the paint and clearcoat. This will be alot cheaper for you. hope this helped

My Beretta is the first car I've painted and it's not perfect, but really didn't come out bad. And grand total it was under $500 for metallic with clear coat. I would expect even cheaper for white.

Maybe even go the Styluss route as his white looks quite good.

Maaco isn't that bad, but as said above.....you get what you pay for. My Beretta paint was flaking off everywhere so I paid a little extra labor....$500.00 total. One thing for sure to even make a Maaco paint job nicer... If you can, remove as many parts as possible to prevent overspray. I am fortunate to work right beside my local Maacoso I was able to do so. Removed the trim, grille, head and tail lights etc... Much cleaner final product.

I don't know what your budget is, but obviously, the more you can put into the paint job, the better it will turn out. As said above, there are plenty of options. If there are dent repairs to be done, that adds to the cost as well. I think if I had mine painted outside the family the way we painted it, it would have been easily a 2500-3k paint job. The materials alone cost me nearly 400. (paint, clear, thinner, etc)

Mine ran me 4k... and that was about a 1/2 price deal... Then again my car was stripped to bare metal except for the door jambs.

As everyone has said the more you prep a car before going to Maaco the better it will come out. Most of the paint jobs my father inlaw has on his british cars are Maaco but he has the prep and body work done at another shop so the overall outcome is way better than the average. Granted he has two bills to pay but the paint bill is lower than if he had the same body shop thats doing the body work paint it, and with how he drives them so often and not being "show cars" he can't justify the heavy cost.

A el cheapo maaco paint job dosent look bad. Well at least their spray looks okay. Its the prep work that they suck at/dont give a crap about.

Best bet is to do all the prep yourself. Mask hard to mask stuff, pull lights and grill etc. Sand the whole car and repair any areas that you want to. Talk to them before hand about what grit they would want you to leave the base paint at.

With good prep work it can turn out great. Its just most of the maacos are lazy and do terrible work before they spray it.

Alright, thanks for all the help. As Jon said living on base makes it very hard to do myself or I would. I've done a few cars with my dad but I just have no where to do it. I think for now and cost i will do the prep and Macco and then when i move into a more permenant living situation I can redo it myself. Thanks

Depending on the damage let me know if you need a hand... My cousin just opened his full deal shop so I'm sure if we needed something or wanted his help in pulling or fixing some dents he wouldn't mind lending a hand, as well as floor space to do so, might be worth throwing him a few bucks if something is a bit tricky to get out.
