adding 2 front dogbone motor mounts
adding 2 front dogbone motor mounts
wanting to know if anyone has changed there side motor mount out for the 2 front dogbone type,on the 3100 V6. i have a 95 Z26 and the side mount is a pain to change out the belt.have seen gm upgraded in 97 or so on the chevy lumina and others with the 3100 to 2 front mounted dogbone mounts,my 95 has the threaded holes in the engine block for the mounts? just don't know if i would need to beef up the top of the radiator where the mounts bolt to the plastic piece.
Hell even my 88 buick regal had the 2 dogbones up front, belt change was 5 minutes tops.
This side mount idea was probrobly to increase shop time at the dealer, only thing i can think of.
Welcome ALL replys,thanks!

The front upper core support isn't nearly thick enough to support the two dog bones you are mentioning.

Geoff is right. The support is not nearly strong enough.
Besides, how often to you plan on changing the ruddy belt?

They put one on the drivers side of the pace car vert but as stated above the core support needed some extra bracing.

Re: adding 2 front dogbone motor mounts
That 2-mount design looks far superior to anything ever used on Beretta; I'd be gladly do a conversion If I'd had the pieces here, Can't bee too difficult to reinforce that radiator support...

After changing this couple times at the side of the road..thousand miles from the home, I'd say only once is enoughAsylum wrote:Geoff is right. The support is not nearly strong enough.

Re: adding 2 front dogbone motor mounts
Thanks for the replys I figured i would need to beef up the core support to make it work, what about the threaded holes in the engine block, are those the same for the lumina mount dogbones?
Hell I made my own strut bar with a piece of 3/4" or 1" thick walled conduit, flattened the ends in a vice, drilled some holes to attach to the top of the strut mount bolts, car handles superior, compared to stock without a strut bar.
I have wanted to do the dogbones from the first time i had to change the belt, not only the belt, but last week changed out waterpump and belt, and the motor mount was the biggest pain of the whole job.plus among other components like the power steering pump, cam sensor,or cam sensor O-ring.the rear bracket under the alternator,no room for a wrench, let alone a socket.
all i'm saying is,the Z26 and others would be so easy to work on if that stupid mount was never put there in the first place.
As far as beefing up the core support,I would think thick angle iron running across fender to fender,or 1 1/4" to 2" pipe bolted to fenders, flattened on ends and drilled and bolted with the fender bolts.drilled in center for brackets, you could even cut the brackets, just don't know if hood closure would be a problem.I am open to all idea's from others, let's hear'em.
