I bet your trans wont sound like a rock crusher when its idling in neutral like Roberts did. I still believe who ever rebuilt his trans did not replace any of the input bearings or main bearings in the unit and that's why it sounds so bad at idle, he doesn't agree with me but hey it's not my car so oh well.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
This trans had 200k on it before I ever did anything with it and it sounded fine. It did quiet down a little with a new input shaft bearing/seal in the clutch housing, but the gear housing bearings had never been changed. They were still fine when I had it apart, but I had new ones left over from the kit I bought a couple years ago anyway so I put them in. Hopefully it still sounds good now that I've had my hands in it. haha
Didn't get much done on the car this weekend, but I did get the trans back in it. Now I just need to hook everything up and add fluids. And bleed the brakes. I'm gonna test the pressure at the front and rear to see if the stock master is up to snuff for the rear disc. Get some real numbers on it.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
It lives. Sounded a little weird when I first started it up, but seems to be fine. Might have just been the echo in the garage on jack stands. I'm also gonna check the gasket on my cutout cause it was a little too loud. Runs like crap too...gonna need to siphon the old gas out of it and get some fresh stuff in there. But I did get to wash off a year and a half of dust. God I love those seats, too.
When I bled the brakes I tested the pressure at front & rear. Normal operating pressure of disc brake systems is 1000-1500psi. I got 1400psi out of the font, and 500 out of the back. Garbage. So I'm gonna swap in that Lumina master cylinder and test again...should take care of the issue.

You know, sometimes my timing just SUCKS. If I didn't have to spend my extra cash right now on fuel rails, injector harnesse, jackshaft and a plethora of other miscellaneous parts that should've come with my 1993 GTZ, I'd have already bought one of those from you. I swear, if I ever get this car running again, it'll be a miracle - Apparently, my GTZ that "came with all of the original parts" was actually a 1993 GTZ with a WTF engine; looks like a fair amount of the parts are 88-91 parts that don't even fit - I don't even know if my injectors are actual HO injectors; ugh.DTMAce wrote:Let me know when you get around to installing your brace.
Hopefully you'll still be making them for a bit (or save one for me) until I get financially recovered from this fiasco.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Well, if it makes you feel better my trans is coming back out. Something aint quite right. So I'm gonna tear it apart again to check it over. Everything went together great...but something is making noise with the clutch engaged...in or out of gear.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Clutch engaged in or out of gear the trans shouldn't be spinning at all since the clutch disc is released... I'd look at the clutch assy and bearing first to make sure something didn't get miss aligned on the fork going in.
Clutch released in neutral the trans should be rotating inside so if it's quiet then I wouldn't tear apart the trans quite yet.
Unless you mean "clutch engaged" as in foot off the pedal. I may just be interpreting you wrong.
