Power lock help!!!
Power lock help!!!
Those of you with the late 80's and early 90's models with power locks...do you notice that they energize when they battery is hooked up??? Mine make a noise, like the solenoids have been energized, when i attach the battery. I think that this is the drain on my battery - its a fairly good drain...after 4 hours or so its hard starting and overnight its basically dead.
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Re: Power lock help!!!
Sounds like a bad relay or something on the door locks. Shouldn't be draining like that. Pull the fuse for them, see if the drain issue persists.

Re: Power lock help!!!
using a test light can really help you with battery drain, hook up a light and keep pulling fuses until the light goes out.

Re: Power lock help!!!
don't know if a bad ground on that circuit would cause your problems, but on the left side of the driver's seat by the rocker panel there is a ground wire for the rear defroster/power door locks that corrodes due to a wet carpet problem, firewall leak, door seal,or other. that is on my 95 Z26,yours may not have this.so check!
also you can do what the previous poster says: disconnect your negative battery cable, with a test light, clip the test light to the negative terminal, and the other end to the disconnected battery negative end,if your light, lights, you have a drain, pull each fuse until the light goes out. you can even do the same with a volt meter and it will tell you how much current it is actually pulling.(set to DC scale 20 I believe.

Re: Power lock help!!!
I made a wire as shown in the video that 'themixer' posted...already tried the in-line amp reading on my multi-meter and fried the fuses and will be testing in the next couple of days. I'll post what I find here.
