3T40 from 89 corsica fit in 1997 Sunfire??
My friend has a 1997 Sunfire with the 2.2L I4 engine. he has a 3 speed auto with TCC lock up.
I have a 3T40 3 sPD auto with lock up from a 2.8L v6 corsica, 1989.
Will my transmission fit in his Sunfire?
His transmission died and I can't find anything about this.
His trans says: Turbo Hydromatic AK C
I am basically trying to find if the axels on his car will plug into my transmission, and if my trans bell housing will bolt to his engine.
The rest I can fix/modify.
EDIT:
well, I found out that the 2.2L I4 in my friends Sunfire is the same as the 2.2L I4 used in the Beretta/Corsica.
But I can't verify that it is the same for the 2.2L and the 2.8/3.1L v6's for the bell housing.
And The splines on the trans where the axels plug in, Do you think they are the same between the two cars?
Finally, the photos, what do you think?

Re: 3T40 from 89 corsica fit in 1997 Sunfire??
It should absolutely fit, but the 2.8L trans might have a high FD ratio (numerically lower) for the V6 and a low stall converter, while the 2.2L trans would have a lower ratio and higher stall.
The best way to find what drive ratio and stall your transmission is to check this page out:

Well, we don't plan on racing the Sunfire.
We just want to replace the broken transmission and get the car sold.
I told my friend that the different gearing ratios and the different torque converter will probably make his Sunfire a bit slower considering that this trans was designed for a V6. And he was okay with that.
My last issue is finding if the Driver and passenger axles from his Sunfire will plug into my Corsica transmission.
I found these:
http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&sa=N& ... =189&ty=43
and:
http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&sa=N& ... x=99&ty=61
It says that the spline part for the trans is this on the Pontiac Sunfire:
Driver side: 34 splines Female.
Passenger Side: 34 splines Male.
I'm not sure, but does this sound correct for the recieving sockets on the 89 corsica transmission?
I'm just a little jumpy because he is running out of time and I'm trying to help him.
EDIT:
Found it!

Finally, a parts store with specs!
http://www.wholesaleimportparts.com/Pon ... e_1997.php
and:
http://www.wholesaleimportparts.com/Che ... e_1989.php
I checked the 1989 Beretta axles and the 1997 Sunfire axles and the driver matches for both and the passenger matches for both.
I'm just hoping someone here can verify this is correct for me because I really need a second opinion.
