I don't know what he is going to do about it, I haven't spoken to him since I discovered this.
Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Im at my machine shop now and i just cringed at the way you measured that..3400tZ wrote:
I wish I had a freaking battery for my caliper :/ The teeth seems to be about 4.5mm deep and from one tooth to one on the other side (see picture) is 116mm. What do you get with yours ?

When your inside of a radius like in the pic you should use the pointed ends so you get an accurate measurement at the lowest point of the radius,
Someone could ship me the sprockets/chain for an OEM and DRTC and i could put them on the CMM and tell you exactly whats different down to about .0001"

I don't have the sprockets that match this chain though. The chains are purchased from Cloyes just as a DR chain replacement, the sprockets as you know are custom made for out cam and application.
I don't want to get another party involved, I'll just wait to hear back from Marc. I emailed him my findings as well as I may call him later.

Inside of the gear side to side I measure 114.95mm... Top of tooth to top of tooth so overall gear diameter I get 125.5
Best depth measurement I can get is 5mm on the teeth... thats hard to do since the tool is square your measuring with.
The unused cam gear does the same thing as the video I posted above... If you hold the chain on the sprocket and turn in in the air you will jump one tooth by the time you make a 360* wrap on the sprocket.

My actions of posting this info was misinterpreted, so from here on out I'm just going to leave this subject alone.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Well still waiting on hearing back from Marc... Unfortunately he's waiting to get all or most of the timing sets back before bringing them to the gear cutter for verification, and he's been diagnosed with some unfortunate health conditions so he's not going to have the energy to be messing with this soon.
So for the meantime which I hope is not long, I just bought a SA Chain replacement chain which is a morse chain so its not crap, and I kept my old sprockets I had with my GM original chain and I picked up a new dampener as well... All of that went in and I was quite surprised to see how tight the replacement chain is over the stock GM one is... The stock style has slack when installed but this one barely had any... you had to start turning the motor to feel a tiny bit of slack on the back side of it, so hopefully this holds up good. Also the dampener was nice and soft so it wont make a clacking sound from the chain hitting it.
Got 90% of it together last night, just need to do the belt, motor mount, put in block drain plugs, drain oil and replace filter as well. May just run some new oil through it for a couple hundred miles to try and clean out whatever is in there from that other chain hitting the block and I also saw a good mark on the timing cover as well. Still got solid compression when turning over by hand so that's promising as far as valve piston contact I was worried about.
I might actually hear my car run again since Bfest!

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
My bad...
S.A. Gear Chain
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... ming+chain
It appears to be the same chain Cloyes sells... I didn't have a problem with their chains per-say... it was more the gears that went to crap on my first setup. Sealed Power sells a chain on rock auto for $50, but I can't see any pictures of it so I don't know if it's any different or not. May be a OEM GM replica not sure though.
Difference between the two is the GM one will only bend/wrap in one direction and not bend back on itself, the SA and Cloyes setup will bend in either direction.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
I'm sending out my DRTC sets next week; I've been in Chicago for 2 weeks and have been unable to.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
I drove it for the first time since I got home from Denver last night! Nice and quite again. Hopefully this chain lasts till I feel like putting whatever I get back for the DR option.
Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Too bad a gear drive set wasn't an option. Would eliminate the "stretch" issues lol

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
I'm sure I could design one if I really wanted to
Add a nice fake SC sound to it.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Don't worry, it would be Pete jackson style with helical designed gears thrusting towards the block for a smooth quiet sound. You're not getting off that easy with the SC noise! lol
