im lost on this all advice welcome
i recently bought a 1995 chevy beretta.it had a push button toggle switch to start it and wanting to take it back to the original key start on column i removed the toggle switch installed a new starter and when i turned it over nothing everything works but the ignition. upon investigating i found a black box under the dash three wires enter the box a yellow wire marked starter a red wire marked power and a black wire for the ground the other end has been cut off but there are 5 or 6 smaller (8 gauge?) wires coming out the other side all i can figure is it was an aftermarket alarm or something so if any one knows anything about this please let me know ty in advance for any suggestions

Okay, so let me follow this...
Car: '95
Engine: ? (not really relevant)
Transmission: ? (probably not really relevant either)
Did everything work right before you pulled the start-button? How did you turn on the accessory setting, or just the 'run' position? Did one switch do all of it, or just the single function of 'start'.
On our cars, the ignition switch (electrical component, not the lock mechanism) is under the dash attached to the steering-column and is actuated via a steel push/pull rod that is in turn operated by the lock cylinder. The cars use a yellow wire (larger, maybe a 10-gauge, thick wire) from the ignition switch to either the clutch-safety switch (if a manual transmission) on the inside of the firewall or the gear-selector switch on the transmission (if an automatic). From either of those switches, the wire becomes purple and goes to the starter itself.
Generally, regarding GM ignition switches red is from the battery, as an un-fused 'hot' or 'battery +'. Orange is typically a fused circuit, also usually hot at all times. Pink is typically going to be 'hot' power out, once the ignition-switch is turned on.
I've had two Berettas come to me with aftermarket alarm systems installed (one was a '95 also), and both have had problems from the installation being done wrong. It is entirely possible that an aftermarket alarm of some kind is in your car, and causing the whole thing to be FUBAR.
A picture of the old button that was in there might help too.
