Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
I used some from a friend on the output shaft seal on my C5 rear axle. The seal was spinning in the bore and i could push it in and remove it by hand with no tools! With the 680 it doesn't budge (the cover is a hundred bucks or so and installing it means re-shimming the diff). I also used it to hold steel drill bushings in my aluminum rotor drilling jig (5x120.67 to 5x115).woody90gtz wrote:Wow, just read the description and it sounds like it shouldn't even need a new pin with 680. That could save aggravation.
They had to re-do one of mine because of a blatant mistake as well.woody90gtz wrote: I am less than pleased with Driveshaft shop at this point.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
When did you order your axles and when did you have your problem? I'm just curious because I'd like to mention this to them. I can tell they are going to fight fixing mine at no charge. They made it sound like I must have been mud bogging to have this issue, but I think it must be a manufacturer defect for moisture to get in a sealed boot.
I have had the driver's inner CV apart a few times thanks to my LSD, but never any of the other boots...and the failed CV is the passenger outer. And when I bought the axles new I had an issue with driver's side...I should look back in my thread and remember exactly what it was. It acted like the axle was too long, but I think it ended up being that driver's inner CV had a problem. (The one I just paid $75 to replace again.)

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
I ordered them about 6 months before Charlotte, and one failed shortly thereafter. The axle shaft was actually wrong and had the groove for the clip in the wrong spot so it only had like 1/4" engagement with the splines. The splines completely stripped.

Ok, so you ordered them nearly the same time I did. I went back through the thread and it was both...one too long, and a failed tripod. The same one I just replaced. I sent the binding pass axle off to them today, they should have it Thurs.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Not impressed with DSS. They will "probably know by Friday how to fix the axle." They've already had it a week once tomorrow rolls around, and have generally shitty customer service. Very slow turnaround last time too. You would think for $800 they would be better...
So there goes another nice weekend without the car. I told them I'm running out of nice days to drive this thing!

Yeah join the club of being out of performance parts... Just get an oem set for now till they fix it right. I'm running a stock timing chain right now.

I thought about buying a cheap axle in the mean time. If I had known how long it would be I would have. The whole point of the expensive axles was to avoid this crap. haha

I know...like an ACDelco master cyl was to be good the first time. Everything annoys me lately. And I don't know how to change that.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Called DSS today and they were working on it...said they would call back before the end of the day. Got busy at work and realized at 5 that there was no call...and then nobody answered. These guys suck.

i'm surprised my original axles and trans are still holding together.. both were thoroughly abused before i did the whole engine mod thing. still got the spare 4t45 for when i grenade the current one.woody90gtz wrote:The whole point of the expensive axles was to avoid this crap. haha

Completely different loads applied to an auto axle vs a manual one... We have a torque converter to absorb all that thrashing.99GaGT3X00 wrote:i'm surprised my original axles and trans are still holding together.. both were thoroughly abused before i did the whole engine mod thing. still got the spare 4t45 for when i grenade the current one.

Yeah, there is a guy on NastyZ28 whose stock 10-bolt is still alive with a ton of 9-sec passes on it...and mine died at a 12-sec power level. haha
That violent acceleration is what makes it fun though.
