I recall a while back that some folks were manipulating the trans by cutting the VSS wire. What were the reasoning? Or am I mixing something up here with another wire/disabling?

Cut vss disables the top speed limiter and makes it shift all sorts of funny... What are you attempting to accomplish?

For a non street application, thinking it could be possible to control the trans without piggy backing or wiring in a controller. No speedo needed, rpm gauge is likely aftermarket rigged, and abs swapped out.
