The +47 offset is whats wrong... Stock is +42 IIRC 47 is set too far in so you'll most likely hit the spring perch with that including the fact that its a 8" wide rim.

225's on a 40mm with a 7" rim are close enough already.

I don't think it will be too bad actually. Stock is in fact +42 offset. My wheels are +45 and I'm running 225s. So your tire will be 7mm closer to the strut, and 3mm less clearance outboard. I don't have any rubbing. So I think you would probably be fine. I'll try to remember to check mine tonight and see exactly what I do have for clearance. All it would need to be is another 1/4".

a +47 will push the tire further in and add it's a 8" wide rim... so how close is your 225 tire to the spring perch? Push that in another 1/2" in tire width alone as well as 2mm of offset closer.

Its odd but a +47 rim will be set further in the wheel well, my +35's were pretty far out.

Go here,

enter stock tire on left and new on right... See the changes. It's almost 1" closer to the suspension.

I'd like to know if that combo would tuck in there. Keep this updated pending the outcome. Do you have stock springs?

Package is 7 mm (0.3'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars.
Package will stick out 3 mm (0.1'') farther. Acceptable for most cars.
100% clear (leaves even more room than OEM)

That is compared to my wheel as I said. I have a good understanding of offset, and I was dead on. Went to the bar last night and didnt measure mine, but I will tonight.

Ok I just looked at my car in the garage. That 235 is a slightly shorter tire, so your clearance to the spring perch is fine. I have about 1" of clearance from the inside edge of the tire to the strut tube, so obviously that 7mm will not hurt it. You may get a rub on the plastic fender liners at full steering lock, but that's about it.

I think the effective (front wheel) offset on my 8.5" wheel is +21.9 (+60ET for the wheels with a 1.5" spacer)

Definitely is the extreme end of things... Tire is a 245/40R17 if I remember right.

Cliff8928, curious, can you turn from lock to lock without scrubbing?

I think it may just rub the plastic trans shield a touch. Nothing horrible though.
