Won't start

Post by Guest »

A friend has a 91 beretta and when driving home the instrument panel went nuts. The speedometer read 90 mph and it said it was running hot. She got home and shut it off and tried to start it again and nothing. No dash lights, no radio and it won't crank. The interior lights work and the dinging works when the key is in the ignition. Checked the battery, alt., and wires haven't found anything. Please help as I am lost

Try looking for a shorted out wire?  Swapping ECM's?
What have you tried to do so far?

I am just shooting in the dark.

HOW did you check these items? Looseness, corrosion, burnt insulation?

Any blown fuses?

Was the alternator overcharging?

Some items still work, therefore it could be a poor ground splice within the harness.

I would start with the charging/starting system. See what is common with that part of the wiring and why there is no power to the starter.
