Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
And the damn thing (the TCC) is actually programmable!!
You can pre-determine at what speed it comes on and off.
I recall a day driving at about 55 mph and Rodney kept turning the stupid thing on and off with his laptop.
It was pretty weird!!

At least someone agrees with me so I don't look crazy
Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
I dont disagree with ya, however, somethings I can overlook and be ok with.
Dont tell me you're the type that sands down a bolt head and files the edges straight lol

Don't be ridiculous, man! Jon wouldn't do that, he would use a machinist's lathe to fix those bolts, nothing else is precise enough!
Seriously though, I can overlook a lot of things too, but if that TCC isn't locking up by 39 MPH, I am wondering what is wrong, and thinking, 'this thing needs another gear, or something.' I couldn't drive a car regularly like that -it is too serious.
That said, the first replacement five-speed I dropped into my '90 Turbo 'Retta was missing 3rd and 4th, and it took a couple of years for me to fix that (because I couldn't find another HM282 for that long). I also didn't drive the car much until I did fix that though, aside from using it to tow my '95 Z-26 home when I bought it...

That I would have to address immediately. Gotta have the manuals in 100% operating status!Rettax3 wrote:Don't be ridiculous, man! Jon wouldn't do that, he would use a machinist's lathe to fix those bolts, nothing else is precise enough!![]()

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
I just spent over $250 fixing 3rd in my subaru that would occasionally pop out if you were just trolling around town in 3rd... And I just ripped the pos clutch masters clutch out of the legacy last night because it would shudder on engagement and sound like a rock crusher on decel... Mind you this was a stage 1 clutch so if you ask me it was far from daily driver friendly... So yeah I'm a stickler for those small details but my beretta has been to every fest since 08 and I've caught some major problems by being over anal so I guess it's not a bad thing.
I wish I had a machinist lathe at my disposal... That's still something I'd like to learn on.

I would view those issues more seriously than the TCC of a 3 speed in a Beretta (and all the other zillion platforms that uses that trans)
Im not a saying to ignore all minor issues, but rather to use my better judgement for the situation. I will not dump in my time and money to resolve an issue such as a bad TCC, burnt out "shift" bulb, non working defrost, in op outside temp sensor as I see those not something critical for a Beretta being ran into the ground.
Now if it were a Beretta I wish ti preserve and keep a long time and to have for a piece of budget car history, bet your buttom I'll address all little annoyance!

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
Put a list of very critical items in front of this statement and you are presented with how a large majority of the general public feels about their vehicles. If people cared automakers wouldn't be lining their pockets with everyone's money because so many would have to buy a new car so often.1988GTU wrote:I see those not something critical for a XXXCar being ran into the ground.
But now I'm off topic.
I say fix it right or don't bother considering yourself a car enthusiast or DIYer(I know it sounds harsh but that's my opinion no one has to agree), others say don't bother... it's up to the OP.
Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
The OP seems to be using the Beretta as a DD and does not seem to be a Beretta enthusiast/DIY.3X00-Modified wrote: I say fix it right or don't bother considering yourself a car enthusiast or DIYer... it's up to the OP.
I tend to try treating each situation differently (be it skill, money, time related etc) and avoid generally lumping people under one group.
Shouldnt you be sticking up for the 60E instead of this sorry excuse trans GM pawned off in the FWD world?!

3T40 hater.
Again I loved mine do to the close ratio, but another gear would have made it a great stock tranny. Damn wide 2nd gear in the 4T60e makes me dislike it.

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
TCC lockup functions as almost another gear

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
...But then on the 4T60E's you have a TCC acting almost as yet another forward gear, almost making them a five-speed... See, it just goes on and on. I don't like autos as a rule, but the limitation of the 3T40s without the taller OD gear makes me dislike them particularly, but the extra heavy/slushy feel of the 4T60E's also makes me dislike them particularly too(and yes, I've driven ones in very good shape, they still don't feel as light or as crisp as a good condition TH125, and a tranny shouldn't have to be 'built' to any extent of that word to feel decent IMO, so don't excuse them that way either)... Too bad I have Berettas with each one of those that haven't been swapped-over to manuals yet...
Honestly, I don't think the TH125Cs were bad trannys at all, especially for their day. If you want to bash on the TH125 (without the 'C' that designated it as having a TCC), go ahead -slush-boxes are slush-boxes, and designing an auto trans any time after the '70s and the related energy crisis to slip all the time is just cheap and lazy.

Wow you guys, what a discussion haha
Ok let me set things straight:
1. My retta is my project car and I'm fixing it. To use it as a my main car.(so not daily driver yet)
2. This problem i had it when i was going to buy my new tires and rims.
3. I asked for a way to get it home, back from where i was.
4. Asylum and others suggested to just get rid of it. However i plan on putting a new one instead even if this one works, that way i wont have problems in the future.
5 and finally my intention is to return the car to his top shape, all from mechanics to interiors to exteriors.
I consider myself as an enthusiast/DIYer however this is my "first" DIY Project car. I do take a while in making updates to it cause getting parts here for a beretta is near to impossible. So i have to order everything from the US(had to wait 1 month for the spoiler to get here)
Hope that clears my position as to fixing/modding the retta.
Thanks for all of your replies guys

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
The demise of the auto was due to the idiots who hate to "feel" a transmission shift and what sparked the CVT transmission... That's why the 4t60e sucks in it's stock form... it was built toward comfort not performance, and we shouldn't expect anymore than a "comfort" build in a Beretta because honestly they aren't "sports cars"
zcylex Glad to hear you plan on fixing it and you didn't take offence to my statement. Happy motoring!
