Water pump?

Post by carole012 »

I have water spraying in the front of the engine, (it's not visible where it's coming from without taking a bunch of stuff off).  No noises just a leak that's spraying all over the place.  My idiot roommate says it's the water pump which probably means it's something else.  lol  Anyway....if it IS the water pump, he said you have to raise the the engine up (this can't be right) to replace it.  HELP.  Question #1 - how do i tell i need a water pump and #2 - how is it done?  Thanks guys.

Sounds like a junk radiator or hose!!  water pumps normaly just drip or have a little running leak.  hoses will spray along with the radiator..

yup doesn't sound like the water pump to me either

disconnect the hose going back to the rad from the intake (thermostat housing) and see if it skeets water out with the engine running... if its skeeting then the water pump is still pumping water

If it is a v6 your water pump is on the upper left side of the engine and you don't need to lift the engine to remove it.  It's the closest pully to you and i think it's a smooth pulley not ridged you would be able to see the leak.

Yeah if it's spraying it probably is the water pump, when mine went bad it just kept misting coolant all over the stuff in front of it.
